Remove the throttle damper first to remove the cover over the plugs: 2 torx screws. There is enough give in the wires to move the cover, complete with coilpacks to one side.
My missfire was caused by the plug boots which go from the coilpacks to the plugs. My rocker cover gasket had gone, causing oil to seep into the recesses around the plugs causing the loss of spark. While you are checking shove some Bosch F5DPOR plugs in. Cheapest from GSF.

My car doesn't like BP Ultimate. It works better on Optimax or Esso super.

I'll 2nd that, Optimax runs much sweeter than BP stuff.

I find BP Ultimate runs better in my car than Optimax. Go figure!

Mine definitely prefers Optimax to BP. Just filled up with the Esso Super today and that seems OK too.

Are you guys serious about BP Ultimate - mine ran like a dog on that with a full tank of it at the end of the trip to GTi as I'd been nursing the car along with 95RON and new Samcos (which I didn't want to stress yet). The car doesn't run anything like as sweet as it did - I hardly use it much now and figured I had picked up a gremlin.

I'll do nothing, then get her back onto Optimax to see if I can spot a difference...

Mine seems to run fine on both optimax and bp ultimate, cant tell the difference between the two.

I will never put BP Ultimate in mine again - mine was awful with full tank of that. Just filled up with Optimax - 6th gear now feels like 3rd on Ultimate. I'll be making the weekly trip slightly out of my way to the Shell station from now on. I think the Ultimate is responsible for my cut out at 4K - I'm hoping this may clear it. And last time I filled Ultimate it only started on 4 cylinders and I had to replace a coil. I'll stay well clear form now on.

reading the last few posts i think i will fill back up with optimax before fitting the plugs just to see if it is that that's causing the problem . will let you know the outcome.

See the other thread re plugs ! Audiman had a misfire. Changed back to F5DPORs ( from NGKs) and cured. Dont delay! James
