    Turbo modificatin

Right i now have in my posession a brand new k27 turbo (boo, boo, hiss i know i know, old technology etc. . . . . I read it all, go for GT2871, GT3071r or GT3076R so iv saved the bother for all the kkk haters out there OK!).

I have managed to source the bigest k27 so flow should allow for a maximum of around 500bhp, here are the spec's.

14 blade compressor wheel with 49.1/80.7mm (RS2 is 12 blade 47.7/66.0mm for comparison, Right?)
11 blade Hot side wheel with 76.2/68.2mm

The cold side housing at the moment it a rather large split type #14 or #17 A/R! all of which is phenominaly large.

Im looking at purchasing a k27 #6 hot side housing and gatting my machine man to machine away what is needed to fit the large hot side wheel in, then for the moment i think with a large reduction in hot side housing A/R I think Im on a realistic BHP estimate of around 430-460bhp, im also estimating more or less full boost of 2-2.2 bar at around 3800-4000rpm

The reason im telling you this is what size K29 Compressor wheel is needed to take the turbo to the next level as it were (540-570bhp?) and would i be able to keep the k27 cold side housing (obviously machined) with the k29 compressor wheel or would a k28 or k29 be needed, and would I be realistic in going for a #7 k27 hot side husing in stead to maximise the flow?

Engine mods, suspension, brakes are all there, exept clutch i only have a spec stage 3 rated for 450bhp, this is the reason for the 2 stage thing with the turbo, (i want to change to an alcon unit but this is big money so it will have to wait a little longer as the spec has not even covered 5000 miles yet) the car has been off the road for over a year now and im having cravings for POWER, the 2.8td pajero just don't cut the mustard!
Probably the longet S2 project in history EVER!

I am not sure if the K27 with #6 hotside exists. AFAIK the K27 series uses #7, #9 and maybe even bigger unequel numbered hotsides......
But that is only what I have been reading on the forum, and I am no KKK expert

I dont think you are going to be able to produce 500 bhp with a 49mm compressor inducer... You need to fit in a K29 compressor impeller with machined housing. My question is if you wanna make the hussle for machined housing why dont you go for a modern Holset turbo where the only thing you need to machine is the Turbine housing!

      see mine:

      Go Holset or Go RS4

What? What do you mean by biggest ? Yes, turbine housing may be biggest, but it is compressor what matters for ponies.

14 blade compressor wheel with 49.1/80.7mm (RS2 is 12 blade 47.7/66.0mm for comparison, Right?)
11 blade Hot side wheel with 76.2/68.2mm

That's some tractor turbo . Fast spool, huge engine, loads of Nm at low rpm and no HP...

Why in the world you need that? Tractor pulling with I5?

          # numbers in KKK not necessary mean size. Usually they do, but not necessary. Trust me .

You may need to change the compressor housing together with the wheel. Somehow it is possible to change "trumpet" inside compressor housing by heating and cooling tricks, but they cold weld together in time.

Maybe it's morning, or something. But I can not clearly understand your goals. I would also go holset HX35+k26 or K27 hot side route. I see no use from low rpm truck turbo...

Maybe, but now I see, that you have some K27 turbo with 3260 compressor, which is known not to be usefull for performance. In generally - this turbo is unbalanced because cold side good for 300-350hp, and hot side is good for way more than that something like 500+. This is true for small engine (<5ltr) petrol applications, maybe some 3.5l 12v beemer can already take benefit from it.

So I would guess, that it is possible to reach 400-420hp with this turbo, and proper tuning, but it will be like pushing s2 k24 at 300hp. Not trivial job.

P.S. And BTW, I'm no expert!. I have no education or any knowledge in depth of KKK turbos. So all the information I provide is purely empirical, found in the various corners of the Internet, and possibly inaccurate. Don't trust it without grain of salt, and make your OWN decisions and research.

Thats why i want to up grade the cold side, and as to the size i.e the bigest k27 im not talking about bigest a/r or housing sizes its the bigest turbine and compressor wheel in the k27 range.

Have read turbology by Paul (S2central.net)? Compressor wheel has two major parameters - inducer and exducer diameters. What is biggest then? You have wheel with large exducer, however inducer of your turbo is not able to "bite" enough air at high rpm, which is required for HP. K27, K28 - those are turbine wheel families. Matched compressor wheels float around neighbor families. And yes, they may have different shaft diameters. Bigger turbos sometimes use hexagon shaped shaft.

I will not be accessing my turbo digest files this week (they are in another computer), but you can provide me turbo numbers you have, and I may try to dig, what shaft we are dealing with and what wheels (cold sides) can be fitted (I will only give recommendations, and your turbo specialist will need to confirm or deny that).

Fair enough i see what your getting at, i know that the turbo came off a big engined mercedes 16.4ltr which produced 435bhp standard, the shaft is 10mm. I will pm you the numbers on the plate and see where you get.

                    Regards

Sounds like you are trying to crack a egg with a hammer! Why not do it the easy way and buy a turbo off the shelf and forget the KKK?

                      I have this for sale

Because im on a budget and thank's to auction sniper the turbo cost me less than the postage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont mind lag, its like 'calm before the storm' it will be interesting trying to keep it spooled up drining down the welsh valies, Im also not building a racing car where every 1000th of a second counts, i like tinkering, changing stuff and generaly modifying and learning on the way.

If i wanted a good handling car with good power i would just buy an evo (I culd have nearly bought an fq340 by the time I will be finnished, and so could most f the lads on here), but i just dont want to!

So no i will pass on the offer thank you.
