I'm fairly sure its in good health now, just need to change back to the AAN ecu. I have a loan of a boost test kit so i'll get stuck in this weekend

OK - cool... I'll be in Dub a few times thru February - without a car, but we could get together then if that works.

Nice work Paul, no more burn and crash development for you. You'll save loads of time now that you don't have to waste time erasing every time you want to change a byte or two.

I'm intrigued by the circuit you developed to all you to emulate this particular device. I used to mess around with hacking Gameboy emulated ROMS back in the day which has its similarities in some respects.

Did you come up with an D-type transparent latch design that mimics that which is integral to the address lines of the 87C257? Starting with a truth table, then producing a K-Map to simplify the design. I'm a bit rusty on this stuff but I'm sure I could make sense of it all with a bit of a review.

Is the standard EPROM emulator you have a commercial product or is it a homemade item? I built a home made emulator which you could program via the serial port.

@Nuvo - yes you are on the right lines with the transparent latch. Its even more simple than you might think - no truth tables required for one thing... If you got real lucky on Google you might even find the same cookbook I fluked on AFTER I had designed my little adapter.

I may just publish the info on here - its interesting for a few guys like yourself. I've already tipped off my favourite emulator vendor to give them 1st option on productising it properly if they so wish.

Here's the circuit if anyone cares... Its really quite simple - just wish I'd put my brain to the task a long time ago. Oh well...

Only note is here you need 27C256 chips with a maximum of 120ns access time.

I have a PCB outline for this, but need to modify it for what I actually built using a 28-pin DIP cable extension.

Octal D-type transparent latches and a standard 32Kx8 EPROM is a neat little solution to the problem.

good work Paul single layer you gotta love it , makes me wanna reminisce about fiducials, debugging 25 layer etches, and trying to watch those pesky 1 & 0's race across on a 150Gb/s pathway, those were the days

                        Contratulations Paul!
I should try to remind my electronic knowledges that I have forgotten and maybe try to understand some of the things you do to our ECUs.
I am glat this will let you do much more things to the ECUs in an easier way.
                        Cheers!
