misfire problems, help please

Hello all,
I bought my s2 aby roughly 2months ago and after a few weeks it began to misfire when I put my foot down a bit. I have changed the sparkplugs but it still spluttered once or twice on a drive out but when I was out in the car earlier today it began to misfire more and more towards the end of the drive. To be totally honest I'm not very good mechanically but I'm interested and want to learn. Can anyone advise me on the next step to take to remedy the problem. Parts and the best place to buy them would be helpful.
I have also fitted a bailey dump valve to the car, could this have anything to do with it?
Its an english car but I live in france and getting things done over here is always a bit tricky and expensive so any help would be gratefully recieved.

Spark plugs, then change the coil pack boots, they are often an issue, could also be the coils themselves, heard some ppl having problems with the coils after they warm up. but start with good bosch F5DP0R plugs (5x ofc) and if that doesn't work, go with the coil pack boots

All this after you check that the MAF is not broken and clean it with some brake cleaner.

cheers for the tips, where is the best place to buy the coil packs and boots? This may sound stupid but would i know if the maf is broken?

Have you read the codes? Either vag com or use a led and do the blinks method, details on S2Central.com

thanks very much for the link, i'll have read up. i think i've got a lot of learning to do and at the moment i haven't got a clue!
