This type are the boys for the job(I have a set of snap on ones, personally, but then i do this **** for a living!!), but you can snap the ball end if they are too tight/seized so precautions need to be taken- coz if one breaks in the bolt, that can be a nightmare to get the fooker out!!!! BTDT!!!!

The VAG part number for the tool is now: ASE44051000000

Unfortunately, VAG have deemed the sale of tools to be in breach of the dealer agreement that all centres have to sign. This may sound ridiculous but they take it very seriously. A couple of years ago I had a very stern warning from the head of tools and literature at Volkswagen UK pointing out that if I was caught selling tools again then they wouldn't hesitate to terminate our dealer contract. Needless to say I haven't been caught since

They recently set up a department at Volkswagen to deal with supplying tools to the motor trade (or in theory general public pretending to be the motor trade). you have to email them and then they send prices etc by return. As long winded as this sounds it actually works out cheaper as they sell the tools at a discount compared to what a dealer can sell them for.

Just login to audi.erwin.de and go to the workshop area - theres every tool under the sun... I've never actually done it this way though.

There are some tool traders on German eBay that I have used in the past. I can dig out a link later - a good one whose English is fine (like every German I have ever met) and is OK shipping to UK.

Just bought the tool from my audi dealer in Germany, no problem what so ever. So I guess these rules must apply to the UK

That would probably be right... Stupid policies of VW and Audi UK apply - always looking after the customer ehhhhhh... They think they are protecting revenue by making it harder for DIYers to get special tools - but they forget there's this great thing called the internet and an even more bizarre thing called Europe where people from the UK can buy personally import all manner of things that the high street Audi dealer in the UK doesn't want to sell you... So well done Audi - you have lost the revenue and pissed the customer off a bit more.

I don't have any trouble buying VAG specialty tools here in the USA via my Audi dealer. Samstag is sometimes quicker, but their pricing isn't always the best.

                            Must just be the UK
