yes, remove the oil temp sender wire and unscrew the sender.

Have another hand ready as the relief valve and spring will drop out along with some oil

Picture of my 3B oil pump, to give you an idea of where the relief valve is.

Great. I'll have a crack at it tomorrow then. Thanks for the offer Aelred. I'll let you know what I find when I take it apart. I hoping to hell that it's stuck as I can't for the life of me work out why the oil is being forced into the turbo exhaust housing.

Brilliant - thanks for your help guys. Fingers crossed and I might even drag this quattro back on to the road this year!

I had a meeting between pistons and valves due to high oilpreasure on my S6 AAN.
The car ran great, parked it and then i went to start it up again it somehow hit 4 valves.. Took the thing home and checked timing and everything was as it should be. Totally rebult the engine, got it back in the car and it fired like a dream..
But after 450km of running it in the same damn thing happened again after the car had just been parked for a few minutes.. Thank you Audi for removing the oil preasure gauge in the S6... got a gauge and the thing hit 6-7 bars on idle when hot... so i threw the engine away and bought another one
