An ABY is a much easier base to start with as you'll not have the issue of weak main big end bearings and paper HG which is a big no-no at 300hp+ on the 3B... the 5-speed box is weaker too.
If you go RS2 route with modest aims (I would call 350hp modest from an RS2 setup) with an ABY then there is no need to do an engine rebuild or change rods, of course it's recommended and will allow you go to get the most out of it.
As per other sentiments on here - sort chassis and brakes first, then go for power. An RS2 homefry chip after swapping EM, turbo + injectors and fitting 2.75" exhaust should see close to your 350hp goal. Swapping an RS2 IC and airbox at a later date will sort that out...

Im having all the RS2 bits fitted at the end of the Month thanks to Aelred. Im fitting the RS2 Turbo, Manifold, Intercooler is already on and the injectors. Im just looking at my mapping options. I was thinking of a homefry but i was hoping for a bit more power than 350hp. Will the homefry do that? I was looking for more like 380hp. To achieve that am i looking at a custom map?3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips

I have an ABY but with standard rods etc. Been researching the MRC high boost chips which seem appealing. So do Pauls chips thought. Decisions, Decisions3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips

Why wont you need to change rods on aby vs 3b if you go RS2? It was my understanding that rods and pistons are the same? At least they are in etka.

The internals are the same yes, but 3B suffers from spark hop which ABY does not.Audi S2 -1994 | 480 Hp 650 Nm | FlexFuel | MaxxECU | 3" Stainless | Porsche GT3 Front Brakes

I'm aware of the spark hop issue, and in my opinion it would be cheaper just to convert to multi coil setup then opening up the engine.
But I'm not sure if Ross was referring to this?Comment
hijack away can't say i'm bothered
