rs2 timing belt changed, wont start!?

hi thought it would be a good idea to change the timing belt at the same time as the P/S belt, now it wont start?

dismantaled everything of the front and got the belt off with no problems, with the rs2 the timing marks dont line up (1 tooth out) so to be on the safe side i lined up the cam pully with the mark on the cam cover then with a screwdriver scored the flywheel.

took the belt off and put the new belt on, lined up everything and made shure the belt was tight on the opposite side of the tentioner. checked the marks all lined up then assembled everything back together

now it wont start but it seems to be fireing on 1 cylinder? why would it start and run fine before but sudenly stop running?

could the timing be slightly out? how can you adjust the timing? i dont see why it could be the hall sensor? maby im wrong?

    please help!!

    cheers adam

If it was a tooth out, i think it would run.

I think it's the timing. It doesn't need to be much off and car won't start. Ecu will not give spark if it's off

The marks don't quite line up on the camshaft pulley and cam cover when it's correctly timed.
Something to do with the RS2 specific water pump (more teeth = bigger = pumps water faster).
Others will know more I'm sure.

The RS2 water pump has less teeth than the aby so it spins more turns per revolution also the belt is shorter with less teeth to account for this.

The cam wheel will not line up with the mark it should be half a tooth back from the mark

Nearly right with the water pump. Knew I'd read the front timing mark won't line up.

Here's one for you with the RS2 water pump and ABY belt on the tall deck stroker the points line up perfectly.

              Go figure!

I think it's strange that suddenly the hall sensor fails like that...
i will put my two cents on the timing....
Marks spot on in the RS2 it's wrong....
On the RS2 you must put the flywheel on mark and the cams pulley must be off the mark like this:

I think that unless the engine is actually running you will always get this code.

                            is that not code 2112?

i see that leigh smiths s4 aint starting after he changed his timing belt too?

ive disconnected the battery to clear the codes, see if that does anything. would a code 1231 stop the car starting?

Just checked my car and it comes up with code 2111 and it starts and runs fine. But according to this code 1231 is the vehicle speed sensor G68 not the engine speed sensor G28. Don't know if that would stop the car from running though.http://s2central.net/main_frame.html
