Doug, the tensioner has a small protruding round lug on the rear side. This locates into the oil pump housing. It's a tight fit, so you may need to give it a little tap with a rubber mallet to get it to move. Don't try to get it back into place using the bolt that secures it. This is likely to snap or strip it's threads in the process. Just tap it back in gently using a socket on the centre surface.
I'll go out to the garage and take a pic of it...91 Modded 3B

If you have a new one, don't worry about damaging the old one getting it out.Originally posted by Doug_RS2Steve - I need to get one off the car before I put the new one on .
Lever if from both sides at the same time and it will pop out. The one in the pic was fitted to the pump 20 mins ago. i just tapped it from side to side gently with a hard rubber mallet and it came out OK. There's plenty of material around it, so you shouldn't need to worry about damaging the oil pump housing.91 Modded 3B
