    Catch tank fitted

Well i managed finally to sqeeze/fit the tank in a position that would allow to act only as a separator of oil muck and fumes. Having the tank for a while venting to atmosphere i noticed that the tubes that went from the tank to the atm.filter were practically completely devoid of any oil there so i decided that even this cheepish tank was good enough to keep the MAF and turbo/IC cleaner.

SO i decided to reroute the whole thing back as original but with the tank in place.

However my only concern is that it sits a bit close to the downpipe and it makes me wonder if that is going to be ok. Since this is a carbon/alloy tank i managed to wrap the bottom half of it with heat insulating paper so as to be safer. Do you think this is dangerous? should i try and go for a complete alloy tank? The closest distance from the downpipe/wastegate pipe is about 5cm. is that enough?

This is a temporary solution anyway,as next year there is going to be much more space to fit it properly.

I have connected the catch tank today as vasilis did on the upper hose that comes to the head and i notised that there is a fair amount of oil comming out of it....now i dont want to reroute it to the compressor side of the turbo and i also think that if i use a filter it will be full in oil after 2 days? Is something wrong with the breather system or is it ok for an engine with many many kilometers?

it has no baffles like a greddy and some others that i have seen!

yes works good too but you might need to change the filter thingy more often because the oil fumes in the car are way more than the on in an air compressor.

Back to my question i intalled the tank and let it open on top to see how it is going to llok after a fast ride with full throttle 2-3-4-5-6-5-4-3 gears at 1.6-1.7 bar till 7000 rpm. After that i opened the hood and the place where i put it was full with oil. Is it normal or do i need to change something else? Can it be that this flame trap etc are not working correctly?

              thanks

                thanks
I've removed the filter - the pot now acts as a pressure relief / swirl breaker type device so that ALL the oil is trapped and only fumes escape. Works a treat

                        haha very well put!!!!

autoglym and mequiars should have something in their catalogue!!!

actually the one i have the pictures here comes from ebay, but forge sells the same kit really.

as it has been discussed before, you need it to have at least some kind of baffle/ mesh to be able to separate the oily smudge from the vapours, at least if you are not changing all the system but part of it,as i did. This is the quickest/easiest way to do it,and basically it keeps all the oil and sends the vapour back to the turbo. Ok that means that the air is not as clean as you'd want to,but it is not that serious.

LOL - now Sonic is interested... phatty will be next... should be sold as 'MAF Wire Cleanser' or 'Intercooler Purifier'

That comp air fitting is a bit curious, but somewhat ingenious too - I rather like it as its see through... Modding it with a drain back to sump might be neat. Having to clean them out is a bit 'orrible.

funnily enough, its my next step.
I am going to use a solenoid on the drain point hooked up to an ignition live so that its closed whent the engine's running and then drains whenever the ignition is off! There is a suitable solenoid going begging on the carbon canister thinge wotsit. :mischeif:
I currently have a 8mm air line and tap on the bottom, all I do is open the tap and drain the gunk straight into an old oil can. - no mess!

Nice idea with the solenoid there too. Sure you want it closed with engine running - wouldn't a good number of hot runs fill that little reservoir up with oil before you get a chance to drain it ? You could control the solenoid dynamically - in parallel with EVAP or WGFV - need to think about whats best... Probably WGFV so that when you are boosting hard the drain to sump is open - but you'd need to drain back below tide mark.

Only advantage with it being opened with engine off is you can drain back to sump without going under the tide mark.

Can you post a photo of where you have this one fitted ?
