    Some questions about Audi RS2

Hello friends, I have already search in the forum but I have not find all the information that I need, I hope to find it here, thanks a lot for your patience.
My RS2 have a problem and I don't understand what can cause it, the problem that I have is the 00561 error code, the car is completely original, only I have remove the cat and I have mount PKM chips for 370 hp, I remember that also with the original Motronic chips for 315 hp and the original cat I had 00561 error code and also another error code that now I don't remember exactly which was but I think was 00537. With this two error code and the original chips the car had not problems on the road, now with the PKM chips for 370 hp I read only 00561 error code but the car have problems on the road, when overboost turn on I have a bit on knock and the engine for me I think that is slow in acceleration, when the engine is hot at the idle I have the impression that sometimes there is a ignition failure in one of the 5 cylinders, is really a very small ignition failure that can be also normal, I don't know. I have already change some parts and I have not resolve the knock problem and the ignition failure problem if really there is a ignition failure problem and isn't just my impression, when the engine is cold, immediately after turn on it I have also a leak in the exhaust manifold I think but after one or two minutes I have not this problem. I have mount a new lambda sonde original from Bosch with the correct code for the RS2, new and original Audi MAF, new and original Audi N75, new and original Audi pop off valve, new and original Audi Druckregelventil an der Kurbelgehäuseentlüftung, I don't know the correct name in english, spark plugs are original Bosch F5PD0R and have about 10000 Km, also the connectors from reels to spark plugs have about 10000 Km, I have change also the fuel filter with a original Audi too and also the FPR that was a original Bosch 3,8 bar FPR for ADU engine with a 4 bar FPR for ABY engine. Now I want check the air inlet temperature sensor in the air inlet manifold and the water temperature sensor in the back of the engine but I don't know how test this parts and the correct value that have. I want make also a boost pressure test with the original chips for find any boost leak and make a pressure test of all hoses, but I don't know the values of the boost pressure on a standard RS2 normally and in overboost, so I need this values and if possible also the value of the fuel pressure because I want check also it but I don't know where and how check it, can I check also the injectors or not? Which other parts can cause my problems? Thanks a lot!
    Bye

    Man you got problems

But probably not serious problems. First off, why did you change the FPR to a 4 bar unit? Is this what the new software needs? IF it isn't, you are going to be running rich because the pressure differential across the injector will be higher and the ECU may not be able to fully compensate for the extra flow (by decreasing the injector duty cycle).

Secondly, I suspect that you have dieing (as in approaching death) power output stages (POS) and/or coils. You can read about testing for coil strength here:

    http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?p=18838360

For more info about the engine inputs and outputs you might want to visit this 'map' developed for the very similar AAN engine:

standard RS2 boosting profile is 1.4bar overboost and 1 bar to the red line(maybe a little less than that). But when you are testing for boost leaks, you dont pressurise the system with more than 1bar usually. If the leak is there, you will hear it.

YOu may have leaks on the intercooler exit. Search for the Mark H mod here on the forum.

Having the 2 codes with original software does not mean that the car was actually running ok.

Also check the MFTS sensor on the water collector as well. That may have something to do with things as well.

Hello, thanks a lot! Now I make some test and then I write here what I have find. I have mount a 4 bar FPR only for a test but I have not resolve the problem, for me the engine is poor in fuel, I have not blake smoke at the exhaust system, the color of the exhaust system is clear not black and the old lambda sonde was quite white, now I want test also the CO, but is possible without cat or I must mount the cat? Which is normally the CO value for a RS2 with original chips when the engine is hot? I need also the fuel pressure value for the RS2 for test the fuel system.

0561 is Mixture Adaptation Limit (Mul) Exceeded

I know this as I also have this error at the moment so yesterday I replaced the nasty looking Lambda sensor with a brand new shiney one and.......I still get the error so we know it is not due to only a knackered lambda sensor

Mine shows up as a noticeable hesitation just before 4K rpm when on full boost. I have no boost leaks so mine makes 1.4 bar at max boost so I now suspect that this could be caused by a dieing POS or coil pack as UrS4boy suggests.

Good luck with yours and let us know what you find as this is a code that has cropped up before.

          Cheers n

So your engine run too rich in fuel, mine run too poor in fuel, because I have not reached error and not exceeded error as you have. I have try now the G42 air inlet temperature sensor and at about 20°C his impedance is about 481 Ohm, I have try also the G62 water temp sensor and his impedance at about 20°C is about 3000 Ohm and I have see that if I put hot air on it the impedance go down and on the G42 go up so the G42 is a PTC sensor and the G62 is a NTC sensor? Is this right? Is possible that at 20°C G42 and/or G62 have right values and when the engine is hot have wrong values or not? Now I want try to put a external G62 water temperature sensor and protect it from the heat of the engine and try if really the engine run rich in fuel or not, like when the engine is cold, because my knock problem is caused because I have too less fuel in my air/fuel mixture I think. Can I try also to disconnect the G62 connector for a road test only or not? On overboost you haven't knock problem I think or not? Because the temperature of your cylinders are less that mine if you have more fuel that mine, I have the knock problem because I have too high cylinders temperature in overboost I think.

              Si,
when you get that kind of symptoms,i would suggest to clean the maf. I was getting that as well, and it turned out that the maf was covered in sludge. Once i cleaned it, everything went back to normal!!
so i would suggest to clean that as well.

Hello HPmuirt have you black smoke in overboost or at full load? Was your old lambda sonde black or not? And your exhaust system?
When there is a problem with the coils, the POS, the spark plugs or connectors from coils to spark plugs is possible that there is a very little impression of a misfiring sometimes when the engine is hot and at the idle or if there is really a problem with this parts the problem is present also when the engine is cold, or is hot and in overboost, ecc? I remember that when I had put the NGK spark plugs with the original chips I have really a misfiring when the overboost turn on, but now I have the Bosch F5PD0R spark plugs with about 10000 Km and new connectors from coils to spark plugs with about 10000 Km. I want make the fuel pressure test but I don't know where put the gauge and the values of the fuel pressure on a original RS2. Thanks a lot!

I have make a road test now, the boost pressure in overboost is 1,6 bar that with the PKM chips for 370 ps I think is right or not? The knock problem start when the boost pressure is higher that 1,4 bar that is the overboost pressure for the stock RS2 chips. I have make the road test with a water temperature sensor G62 connected to the ECU but out from the water, so the idle of the engine was higher at about 1200 rpm instead of 900 rpm because for the ECU the engine is always cold and the fuel must be rich I think or not? I have the impression that with this experiment the knock problem is higher that before but I don't know why if my knock problem is caused by a poor fuel mixture. With the idle at 1200 rpm instead of 900 rpm I have the impression that there isn't sometimes misfiring problem that I have the impression that is present when the engine is hot and with the idle at 900 rpm, can a problem with the ignition system cause it and also the knock problem? Because really I don't know, tomorrow I want make more test with all the water temperature sensor and air inlet temperature sensor new, I make a pressure test for check the hoses, especially the hoses between maf and turbo inlet, I try also with other POS, coil, coil to spark plugs connectors and also spark plugs, I want make also the fuel pressure test but I need some information for it, so if all this test are good the only parts that I haven't test are the injectors I think or not? I have test the air inlet temperature sensor G42 when the engine is hot and his value is about 530 Ohm if I don't remember wrong, so I think that G42 sensor work good, now I must try when the water is hot also the G62 sensor but with the engine hot is not easy test it for his position without burn the hands

Thanks a lot for your patience!

Hello, today I have make a road test with the chips that I had in the ECU when I have bought the car. Before today I was sure that these chips was the original RS2 Motronic chips but I think that these chips are already tuning chips because in overboos I have a boost pressure of 1,7 bar and not 1,4 bar as A80Avant has write, with this chips the knock problem is very small, only a bit for an istant immediately when the overboost turn on, after the overboost remain on and the knock problem is not present, also the engine now is faster to take rpm that before. I have always the misfiring problem when the engine is hot, tomorrow I chech the impedance of the coils.
