I've been getting more and more requests about these recently. To avoid lots of repititive PMs here is some information to keep in mind.
I can upgrade an ABY or AAN ECU to RS2 specification - with factory or upgraded chipsets. Or I can upgrade an original RS2 ECU. More about spec's below.
One of the really annoying things about the RS2 chipset is that it needs a 3bar MAP sensor as that is how the software is scaled to operate. This means you can theoretically run up to 2bar boost on such an ECU - highly improbable for an RS2 turbo of course. Thats not so much the annoyance - its the cost of the only 3bar MAP currently available as drop in replacement part - the VMAP-D at anywhere from GBP 130-150 each. It works great, but the cost is off-putting to a lot of people.
I am looking to try an alternative 3bar MAP from Motorola but the packaging is somewhat strange and I need time to work that out. Meantime you have to wonder do you really need a 3bar MAP device for a nice running RS2.
The factory chipset only runs to 1.3bar max anyway so its about curious that Audi / Porsche / Bosch decided to go with a 3bar MAP - the 2.5bar device would have been adequate. Clearly someone was thinking about higher boost levels here...
The RS2 chipset that I currently have available - lets call it 'N - stream'. This runs to about 1.5bar maximum so it is possible with 2.5bar MAP.
I am working on a higher boosting 'V - Stream' for the RS2 which I'm hoping to get up to 1.7bar assuming the torque levels aren't deemed to be too risky. This will of course need a 3bar MAP sensor.
So - what to do...
My proposal is to offer a version of the N-Stream that runs with the 2.5bar MAP device (already inside ABY/AAN) to keep costs down for this upgrade. Normal 'homefry' price applies on this at GBP250... And if anyone wants to pay extra for a 3bar MAP version then thats OK - just let me know which setup you want.
The V-Stream pricing will likely be higher as a fair bit more development is needed and things like AFR measurements in real-time will be important so that I can offer this as a generic upgrade. Estimating GBP350 for that setup and inclusive of the alternative 3bar MAP device that I am looking at.
I'll offer a 'multimode' upgrade as well that contains N and V streams on a real-time switchable setup. This would include the 3bar MAP device and require a couple of external switches to interact with the ECU via a cabled plug. This setup shall also contain an eco/valet/spouse mode to disable active boost control. I've spoken to a few people about this and agreed that a fair price for this kind of complexity and capability is GBP450.
There will be preferential pricing for anyone upgrading from RS2 N-Stream to the V-Stream or the multimode package when it becomes available as those users will have already paid GBP250 towards total price of the alternative setup.
A 15% discount against the difference is what I have in mind... So if you have RS2 N-Stream and wish to upgrade to V-Stream it only costs an additional GBP85. An upgrade from N-Stream to multimode would be GBP170.
Finally here are some boost levels and estimate power / torque figures to consider.
Stock RS2
1.3bar from 3000-5000rpm
1.1bar at 6000rpm
0.7bar at 7000
MAX Torque = 410Nm
MAX Power = 315bhp
RS2 N-Stream
1.5bar from 3000-5000rpm
1.4bar at 6000rpm
1.3bar at 7000
MAX Torque ~ 440-460Nm (TBC)
MAX Power ~ 340-360bhp (TBC)
RS2 V-Stream
1.7bar from 3000-5000rpm
1.5bar at 6000rpm
1.4bar at 7000
MAX Torque ~ 475-525Nm (TBC)
MAX Power ~ 350-380bhp (TBC)
Requires the following items on the car -
RS2 turbo
RS2 exhaust manifold (or better such as Wagner)
RS2 intercooler (or better e.g. Wagner item)
RS2 injectors (360ccpm at 3bar)
4bar fuel pressure regulator
Any more questions on this - you know where I am... I'll post any dyno figures and GTech data as soon as it becomes available.
Cheers,
Paul
