    More radiator fan issues

    Hi all

I think this one it's good for Paul (S2 Central Net)

I had my after run pump running continuosly even with ignition off some weeks ago.
it was cold weather so i simply disconnect the plug from the pump and waited for a spare relay to come from a friend.

Main while i blowed a coolant pipe inside engine bay, one of the two that are connected to the heater matrix.... fiifteen years and one of the pipes of the heater matrix decided that it had enough...... and broke in my hand..

So major work dashboard out and new heater matrix...... a nightmare!

Eventually i dismount the dashboard changed the heater matrix put the after run pump relay in position put everything back togheter and reconnected the plug in the pump and nicely it does not run continuosly.... happy man!

Itook this morning the car to a garage to have my air conditon refilled (it was emptyed before the dash job) and everything works fine to the last bulb.

The only thing is that my radiator fan doesn't kick in at the slowest speed when i switch the air conditioning on as it used to do.

I went trough this schematic http://www.s2-audi.co.uk/tech_articl...e_fuse_box.htm

And i found that my N° 20 fuse position (radiator fan 1st speed/radiator fan relay) it's empty.... (also empty on another RS2 of a friend)

Relays 214 in the main fuse box from the above schematic should be three.... but i have one.... the one beside the spare fuses on the bottom row (last to the right bottom) the other two:
second from the left and third from the left upper row are not there..... i putted the first from left in position and nothing happened..... i putted the second one in position and.... fan stays continuosly even with the ignition off.

I thougt about the thermal switch for the after run circuit but the pump it's not running so i assume the switch it's ok.....am I wrong?

My question is what's triggering the radiator fan to slowest speed whit AC on?
The fan does kick in afetrwards at a fastest speed with AC on and temperature it's ok.
    AC works fine.

    Anyone knows anything about it?

    Thanks a lot

    Stefano

You can see the fusebox fully stuffed in the picture on this page

Also, if you click on areas of the picture you linked to, there are hotlinks for the relays and the fuses. Clicking on the diagnostic plugs, takes you to the link above

It sounds to me like there may be a problem with the resistor pack if #1 speed is not running.

today I discovered strange thing with my coolant fan.

if Climate Control is completely turned off the fan will not start in 1st speed when temperature passes 90 degrees. It starts directly on 2nd speed when temperature reaches 100 degrees.

If Climate control is turned on but the a/c (button with snowflake) is turned off the fan is working on 1st speed when I start the engine even if it is cold and the temperature does not reaches 90, but maximum of 86 degrees with fan on in first gear...

My first idea was that thermo-switch in main radiator has to be changed, which I did, but it did not solved the 1st gear issue while CC is off...

I started to search relays and it seems that my car is missing 2 relays No.214 in fuse box. second from left on the top line and first from right on the bottom line. http://www.s2-audi.co.uk/tech_articl...e_fuse_box.htm

and now the main question.. what is malfunctioning in my car that with climate control off the 1st speed is not working as it should. is it the missing relays, or the climate control unit or something else?

My 93 aby has the same, no first speed on the fan, when the coolant temperature reach the 90degree mark, the fan starts on the highest speed, complete with RPM drop...

Already changed the 214 relais, but no result.

Hope you guys have a solution.

looks like I have solved the 1st speed issue, by putting in the missing relay in slot 11... but now there is a question why it was missing and when and who removed it from there???
