    VAGCOM datalogging

Im trying to datalog as much info as possible from the motronic whilst changing to VEMS in a short while. I was amazed to realise that on full throttle and with about 2bar to 1.8bar of boost im getting somewhat of 20degrees of advance.!!

I dont seem to have any knock, engine is running perfectly, and IAT was 27-30C on that run with no water injection in operation.

From the little knowledge i have,i know that this is rather aggressive. To whoever knows this however here is a question:

Is the ignition log from VAGCOM the actual advance you are seeing derived from any maps that could adjust it?Is that the final figure that i am getting, or is it lowered somewhere within the map to compensate, and im just looking at a false number?

    thanks

AFAIK - that number reported by VAGCOM is accurate and takes in correction factors for air & water temp etc etc... I'd need to look into it further to be absolutely certain. I wouldn't worry too much though - you'll get enough info from this exercise to get good initial settings for VEMS config then its just minor changes from that I expect.

      thanks paul

trouble with vagcom is that it gets a bit stuck and cant read more than 6600rpm so far, as well as having trouble keeping up the link to the laptop

here is one of the logs i made today. let me know what you can make of it

      thanks

Seems like you were only briefly at WOT?

What settings did you use to log all these parameters at once?

          you mean on vagcom?

actually all my WOTs were up to the red line but it seems that the datalogger couldn obtain higher readings than 6400rpm

          settings on vagcom are:

          baud rate 0
KW2 delay: 45 (seems to work better than 25 which is default)
          tst addr: -1
          blink intr: 55
          char int: 1
          kp2 time:55

          and enabled the kwp-1281

can someone also tell me if the clun LOAD refers to the MAF reading?

Looks like it only registered WOT between 3600 and 5600 for the first WOT run

Maybe you have a RPM signal issue. Didn't the G-Tech RR also freak out above approx 5900rpm?

i dont remember where the RR lost the rpm signal.it was lower than that, and if you see on the next runs i do get rpm signal up to 6400rpm.

i think it is only to do with the fact that have a non original cable for the vagcom mainly.

also i did go up to 6900 or something, didnt overshoot the 7000rpm unless when i put it to neutral to change gear,so it is only 500-700rpm that it didnt measure really.

maybe it has to do with the fact that the more the engine is revving ,the more info is fed to vagcom and it is difficult to keep up.

what sort of rev signal would you think there is problematic?

I would have guessed a problem with the rpm signal to the ECU, however, your tach would probably be off if that were the case.
The G-tech listens for electronic noise in order to generate rpm, so the cause of that one showing the wrong values will be something else

in any case, what is the LOAD value measuring in the VAGCOM?

LOAD in VAGCOM has bugged me from day one... I won't get to the bottom of it until I have the engine simulator running and LOTS more emulator time. It supposedly reflects an internal value on the ECU, but with zero documentation its very hard to be useful.

If you want to log MAF voltage on a run, along with throttle position, EGT and AFR and RPM then you'll need something like Zeitronix ZT-2 (like I just bought recently)

                          no it's not that
i was actually trying to figure out if that LOAD parameter has anything to do with the LOAD you see on motronic maps,or on the maps the term 'load' reflects a number derived from the MAF reading only

Were the pulls made in 3rd or 4th gear?
                            What was the ambient temperature?

Would be helpful if you had a WOT log from low rpm to redline, since the posted log has a lot of on/off WOT action.

I did some logging last night. Temperature on the dash gauge was 8deg C, the temp probe at the airbox inlet said 10degC (compare this to the 40-60degC temps that I saw on the wortless (shielded) cone filter setup that was on the car when I got it).

Pulls were on a fairly steep hill in 4th gear, from approx 2000rpm to 5700rpm (going 2x posted speed at 5800rpm, so time to back off.)

1st pull was at 1.8bar peak lasted for approx 17 seconds. IAT dropped down to 12.6C at 3300rpm, then to rose to 18.2C at 5400rpm. Peak temp recorded right after closing the throttle was 22.4C
                              Coolant temp steady at 91C.

2nd pull was at 2.0bar peak and lasted for approx 15seconds. IAT dropped to 11.9C at 3000rpm, then went to 18.2C at 5400rpm. Peak temp right after closing the throttle at 21C. Coolant temp at 93.1C

Interestingly enough, despite 2C higher coolant temp and 0.2bar higher boost, IATs were lower during the 2bar run. Turbo (Turbonetic E50) seems to be efficient at 2bar, and the stock RS2 intercooler seems to do a god job.

On a 3rd gear 1.8bar pull to the limiter, peak IAT was only 19.6C at 7200rpm (started the pull at 13.3C at 2800rpm)

Looking forward to doing some power measurements with the MR Dyno. Hoping for 400whp as fuel is now E85 instead of the E75 on the power runs last fall.
