Steve, you can pull codes with a LED, instructions on S2 central for Blink Codes, or I've got Vagcom here.

I am curious to, as I have the same problem.

Note: now it's cold problem has also gone. Will try again if it gets warmer again

The car has been sold another forum member, AvantS2turbo iirc

I think he may of got to the bottom of the fault which was either a leakingmap sensor in the ecu or a vaccum line plumbed in wrong somewhere.
