    Opinions on oil cooled turbos

What is your opinion on them?

Would a medium sized (like GT3076R) abilities turbo that is 360 thrust bearing and oil cooled only be a choise for you? Would those turbos require a turbotimer,or just a bit more caution regarding switching the engine off after a recent thrash?

Been fancying with the idea of a schwitzer turbo lately and the S256 is at about the same size as the 3076R turbo, which would be an option as well.(comps are always an option obviously, but ve have talked about them!)

Turbo timers are pointless IMO, just drive off boost for the last few miles

yes i thought that this is basically the way to go,but in general, are there any other things to worry about oil cooled turbos?

No not really, only have to let them "cool down" for the last few miles, or a few mins in idle.
The turbo itself is not a problem, but the oil inside the turbo when the engine is shut down.

why do you post these threads?
You must have read repo's replys to your mails?

              Terry,
thanks for your contribution. Why does someone always has to mention repo as if he is the turbo god of the S2forum?

I read what he says, but i dont blindly follow it. I just dont roll over when im told. No matter how well repo knows his thing, he has his experience but he expects you to do that, otherwise you become someone he cannot 'deal with' .Therefore he chooses to ignore me anyway OR when not to post some kind of arrogant or offensive post towards my questions. Doesn't bother me. I dont see other top tuners/mechanics acting that way though and i have been in contact with most of them...Why is that?

Consequently i ask something in public to see what others have to say. Others may just ask repo. Simple as that.

              cheers

this post displays exactly the sort of patronising and disparaging behaviour by senior forum members that drove me out of here the best part of 2 years ago

sad to see that little has changed, and that this continues to be tolerated by the forum "owner"

see you again in a year or so, to see if things have improved

To be fair, this forum is a lot friendlier than many other forum. The amount of hostility and sarcasm on Audiworld for example is dreadful. You can't ask any question without being told to search the archives. You can then spend an hour looking for the information you need and still not find it when someone could have just given you the answer in the first place.

Sorry for the hijack, I'll get my coat.

Its just alittle boring seeing 50,000 posts all talking about the garrett gt3071 or gt3076. I am afraid this is a expensive game and sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and try it. I have spent over £20k rebuilding my S2 and i have done alot of things different from every one else off my own back. Some times you need to be orginal.

so, go take your hugely superior knowledge and go play with people who are not so far below you in life - you must find it all hugely tiresome having to humble yourself in a place like this

I dislike bullies, and use a very standard approach to deal with them - I'm sure the man with the ban button will censor me soon, so things can carry on running the way that they usually do in here

I don't think that single reply represents the forum as a whole though, if you don't like the forum then that is your decision, the reply wasn't aimed at you and I can't imagine that you would be aware of any history behind such remarks. Fair enough if it was aimed square at you but it was not. This is a site that encourages open discussion and that involves a wide variety of responses, some which are positive, some negative and some completely off topic

Accusing people of bullying and using all of your 3 posts to insult, accuse and encite a negative reaction wouldn't seem to be the friendliest of entrances...

Dry your eyes! And what does you spending 20k got to do with Vasilis asking a question about a turbo?

Vasilis keep asking away, i like reading your threads and most the replies!
