    Arrrgh! Help!

Just had a screw shear off - it's the one that holds the plug cover on, same part no. for 3b and aby 034 103 714

Anyone have one they've changed, or got a 2.3 engine knocking about (uh, yeah ) or a spare or anything thy can post to me?

Ordered one from Vagparts, but it's gonna be a week. Dealer said longer

Anywhere I can try for a used one? Any suggestions as to how to bodge it so I can use the car? Heh. Sellotape the plug cover down

Also, what torque setting to use for these?

    Doh, doh, and double doh!

    Fook - bad luck mate.

I thought the torque setting on these was really low - about 10Nm?
They are the only bolts I haven't replaced - I have loads of evything else.

Breakers like 4 rings or all audi?

Why dont you just use the three that are left but leave a "hole" in the unused thread -
make sure its one of the inboard ones so you dont strain the unsupported area. Alternatively, a decent car shop should be able to supply something you can cut down to fit - its a standard allen bolt size...good luck...

I think ther are called Threaded Pems. 10Nm. I had one break on me as well.

You coould use an M6 stud and use a couple of nuts on that to have something for the coil pack cover to sit - get the heights right or you run the risk of cracking the coil cover though.

Eh - come to think of it - is th eend stuck in the head? Can you get that out?

The end came out of the head fine, despite being sheared off level. (THANK FOOK FOR THAT!!!)

So, I'm using a length of 6mm threaded rod and a couple of couplers (coupling heh, fnar fn... oh forget it.) plus some thread lock and all should be ok till the proper ones come.

            I hope.

Right. The boogers back together now. How long do I have to wait before I can start her up? The oil needs to seep into the tappets, if I recall correctly...

(then the crossing of fingers, and the 'what have I not put back on' can start....)

Paul, according to 3b manual...quote " when new tappets have been installed, engine must not be started for 30mins (valves will strike pistons) "

did you drain your tappets? think you only have to wait if you have done or are using new ones.

I left it about 1h 30 mins, that's after draining the tappets (aside from one, from Andrew Pages' that refused to drain. I bought another, and that refused to drain too. Perhaps an updated 'refuse to drain' design). Cracked her up...

Budda budda budda - bloomin eck it's a bit lumpy, or was, as it settled down after about 5 seconds to a steady, even idle. Sounds boomy as fook with the car a foot in the air in the garage with the bonnet open though.

Anyway, it starts, revs, runs, so job done. Only have one screw I couldn't find a home for, and dropped it in the engine bay anyway (where there are probably a cars worth somewhere) and gave up trying to make the Samco from turbo to intercooler fit. That pipe is destined for the knife, as Dr Ness performs more boost surgery, probably over the weekend, when I'll have the front off again.

Got a pile o photos, but they aren't much use - wanted to do a 'stage by stage' but after the screw sheared off, I wanted to do a 'fook gotta fix the thing.' instead.

Next job, painting the 'AP Racing' logo in on the brakes. Yesterdays' 'Drugged Rolf Harris with a paint roller after being blindfolded, spun around, and told where to paint, sort of' effort with the logo is ok I guess.

                  From a distance.

Cheers for help guys. Let's just hope she holds together... *boom*

Couldnt you hold it down with a bolt that holds one of the wings on? Colour wont match the rocker but those bolts work anywhere, dont you know?

Bwahahahaha! That made me laugh! Cheers!

At least with my bodges I try n make sure I can unbodge without having to replace whole parts again (thanks again Sal for the replacement oil filter housing ) even though it looks a bit of a pigs ****...

*shrug* just so long as the bodge lasts till Vagparts get me bits to me! (praying)
