    ARP Head Bolts

Any1 ever had any probs with these. Only reason i ask I used them on my cossie years ago and they cracked the block around the bolt holes. Because they were not stretch bolts like the OE ones instead on them streatching they put so much extra load on the small area i got loads of small cracks which knackered the block. Once this happened i then found out from the RS site that it was quite common

I am looking ahead for when i change the head gasket and not sure if i want to go that route again.

    cheers

Im using them also, had no problems, they provide you with a lower torque setting than the stock bolts (well 2 actually, for an ally head its a bit lower still), to take into account they dont stretch.

Make sure the washers are at least as big as the stock ones.

SteveH should be able to give you part numbers.
I got mine from him, so far so good...

The torque you use on the arp studs is a lot less than the standard bolts - You also have to use the moly grease on the arp studs - read the instructions and you won't go wrong

I am using them. I had heard the rumours of the split heads etc - but not seen any proof of this on the 5 cylinder. I bought sport quattro (IIRC) head bolt washers and I have used them instead of the arp supplied washers - it will not do any harm but spreads the load a bit more than the ARP washers.

                Doug

What is the exact torque you used for your bolts?

                Cheers

I can't remember - I will need to look out the sheet that came with it later - Steve, Martin, and Mark have them fitted as well.

Ok, from what I see on the application list from ARP it says 80 ft/lb. Thats quite a lot NM'eters. 105 NM if i calculate that correct. Does that sound right?

it doesn't sound right to me - I definitely did not tighten mine that tight as my torque wrench does not go that high. I will definitely check now!

I opted not to use them in the end. I guess i was working on the assumption that i never want to pull the engine apart again. Think the OE bolts are 2.73 each x 12

I can't find the info tonight - i'll have another look tomorrow. Try Martinjs, SteveH or Mark Halligan - they have them fitted as well.
