    Hunting idle, then a stall...!

    Hi,

Fitted a new starter motor to cure that problem over the weekend (a How to will appear shortly) but seems that a new prob rears its head... When the car is started the idle would normally sit at 6-700 but its hunting for a couple of secs before finding the level.

I took the car out for a quick spin, on coming up to a roundabout, dipped the cluth on pulling to a halt and ......stalled

I think it must be to do with either:

    ISV?
    Lambda?
    possible air leak?

Can you suggest anything else to look at......? My instinct tells me its the lambda as the fuel consumption has been creeping up a bit recently but any help appreciated.

    Cheers,

    David

What does the ISV look like? Where is it? (sorry to sound stupid) Mine has just started doing the same.
      Thanks

look towards the centre-back of the engine bay, there will be a metal cylinder directyl above and behind the IM.....so where the black inlet pipe runs along the rocker cover, then there is a small rubber section and a L shaped metal pipe which connects directly to it It connects to two rubber hoses, the one off that small diameter metal L pipe and one directly below the ISV.

David I have been having problems with poor fuelconsumption on my Mondeo 100K. The mileage has been down to 16 MPG and is about 22 normally. I have just swapped the Lambda sensor and it is miles better. on Saturday I swapped the fuel filter and another massive improvement.

Lambda sensors seem to last about 100K. I bought a 4 wire sensor from a Ford specialist and changed the plug to suit my Mondeo. it was £20 instead of £75 +VAT from Ford. The £20 sensor was made by Ford anyway!

I would suggest a fuel filter as they are about £5. It could be well and truly blocked. This in turn could lead to poor fuel delivery and also pump failure.

The Audi has a steel tank whereas the Mondeo has a plastic one which does not rust. My audi has a 3 wire sensor.

          HTH

Very simple one but have you reset the ECU (fuse pull). On the ABY it seems to have a learning idle which sometimes needs 're-learning' *may* have got upset during the starter motor failure.

Also, is it possible to change the lambda without using the special, specific socket?

David, if you remove the airbox you can get at it with a 22mm spanner, you have a cone though dont you? should be easier

Hi, car is now back to how it should be, changed the Lamda which is a true 5 minute job if you dont have an airbox, took her for a spin and holly sh*t i have sweet boosting across all gears and noooooooo hesitation and lumpy idle/stalling. Nailed the nuts off it last night just to be sure all was well However this morning, boosted to .8bar then a strange almost beeeeep sound. On arriving at work realised that i had clean blown one of the jubilee clips of th short section of samco leading up to the rocker cover.....so i guess i am creating peak boost

Pics to follow on the lambda, the original bosche one was superceeded with a nkt (or something) as recommended in the bosche parts catalogue...they dont look the same but it sure works!

                          Cheers,

                          David

Changing the Lambda probe makes a big difference. I changed mine on the Mondeo and I have a different car to drive now! 100K miles.
