3B with RS2 components - what's the chip of choice?

Sorry for the broad question, but there's just too much info to sift through on the forum regarding chips or 'home fries' as people call it. Here's my set up:

    3B motor w/ stock internals
    7A exhaust cam
    RS2 turbo & exhaust manifold
    RS2 injectors
    7A FPR
3B ECU w/ 2.5 BAR pressure transducer and Intended Acceleration's stage 3+ tuning (should be good for 380 hp)

I've been running this set up for a couple of years now but it's always seemed to run quite rich. I get a pretty bad smell in the cabin when coming to a stop and fuel consumption is pretty heavy. I also seem to be going through a lot of O2 sensors. All other components are fairly new and in working order. My question is, with this current engine set up, is there a better chip out there that will give me the same power?

    Thanks!

I'd send a pm to either s2central or mrc to see what they can do, just be very carefull with what chips you have as you are still on stock internals and the rods are prone to becoming banana's

      steve h's 2nd hand rods

Both should be able to help out and help you protect your rods a bit, only thing i'm curious about is the grade of fuel you have in canada compared to our fuel in england, I think its been discussed before on here, wonder if its better or worse than ours.

Have you got some pictures up of your car etc

MRC tuning mapped my S2 3b with Rs2 turbo etc.

They did a splendid job. It was £500 though (and the new website now shows a price of £650 )

Ouch! Those rods took some serious torque! I don't think I'll have to worry about that with the power I'm looking for. I've sent an email to MRC Tuning so I'll see what they say.

Here in Canada our 'premium fuel' is rated at 91 octane (R+M/2), which is the equivalent to Europe's 95 RON. Not sure about the quality, but I can't imagine there being much difference.

Haven't got any great pics of the car yet. I know, I should get on it!

I hope to have a good safe n reliable RS2 chipset for 3B ECU by end of the year - maybe Autumn time... Price will be £350 and that includes a 3bar MAP sensor. Looking to safely hit 1.7bar or thereabouts in the mid range. Watch this space... Other priorities and projects ahead of it though.

I will be watching closely! What kind of HP and torque numbers are you shooting for/anticipating?

Thats a very good price! I paid £500 plus another 200euros for a 4bar map sensor.. (they didnt have any 3bar ones in stock)

Ive got the same IA 3+ chip on my 3B. It is only rated for 277 hp with the standard turbo and injectors. Are you sure it is capable of running with larger injectors and turbo for 380hp??? Maybe that is why it is running rich. Have you dynoed it to verify that you're making that kind of power??? The info is still up on IA's site BTW...

Yeah, I misspoke in the original post. It's actually some variant of the stage IV+ tuning that I have. I haven't had it on the dyno, but compared to the MRC 280 hp chip I had in there before (with stock turbo, etc.) it's waaaay more powerful, especially when mated to the 034 3" exhaust. I've reverted to the stock exhaust but kept the 3" DP to maintain a reasonable decibel level when tooling around the city. When I had the ECU tuned, I was told that this exact set up has been dyno'd on a 200 20vt with the same components as my motor and it produced 380 hp. I have been meaning to have this verified but 4 wheel dynos are a bit tough to find around here.

Ben: I am sorry but I don't think you can get anywhere near 380 chp with a 2.5 Map. IA has software for 3 Bar Maps that could get you closer but even then 380 chp from 3B with a single coil and a distributor is a bit unbelievable. Make sure that you have the proper NARROW rotor in that distributor or you will find out what "spark hop" can do for your engine.

Hope to meet you next time I am in Calgary

                          Dave,

I was dubious as well about the 2.5 BAR PT and I asked if I had to change it out for a 3.0 BAR and was directly told by Alex at Intended Acceleration that the 2.5 was fine. Perhaps Paul or Mihnea could chime in on this?

How are you liking Vancouver? When are you planning on visiting Calgary? Let me know and I'll get a bunch of the Audi guys together.

Hmmm....I made a call out regarding a June 22 overnight in Calgary and I thought you were on that email list (the Vancouver/Alberta UrS-car email list). I only got one response so I bailed on the overnight and just made a day trip (June 23) instead.

Next time I will be more persistent. I will also make 100% sure that you are on the email list.

As for Alex and IA, he's not Ned Ritchie.

I'd recommend Ben Swann of GTquattro.com. He has an RS2 setup for the 3b that he utilizes an adjustable vmap with. Says 350hp+ capable. I have tested his software and like it very much. (compared to mtm, mrc, 2B that i have tried) Ben is a great guy and i've utilized his stuff for my aan/aby/adu powerplant in my coupe and we are working on testing both options he offers for the 3b consecutively. Check him out.
