i used a cheap summit racing gauge. still have it... i think. ill see tonight if i do. you are welcome to borrow it. if you dont want to permanently wire it in thats fine. ive done this before on subarus just tape it to the dash for a bit. usially the frequency of issues is under a day or a week. things liek poor engine mounts can tug at the wires causing intermittent issues.
i can understand not wanting to fit extra gauges to these cars. the corrado had a cassette box that could be replaced with a factory panel for 2 gauges
thats what i have 25 dollars. let me know if oyu want me to try and find what i have. when its fitted let us know what it does.
the genral is.
when car started its in warmup so. lights start at maybe 2 and 3 then rise. after 2 mins or so the guage lights go from rich to lean. thats the probe doing its job-finding stoich. when you mash the throttle they go 1 or 2 from top and hold. thats going to map. when the probe does it drops to lean. the ecu thiniks its lean so puts more fuel in. it still says lean so more fuel. you end up with a chugging car that hardly runs. this is usally after a few mins or so. you feel it get worse too. a bad earth is a similar reading. its a narrow band sensor. this means to us it covers a narrow voltage range but accurately.
a gauge works best but a v meter set to 0-1v will do the same. its should fluctuate then hit and hold. much better using a light sequence though.
This is rubbish, the ECU does not use lambda signal at WOT and thus does not add fuel based on it.

This is most likely an air leak under boost or doggy MAF sensor.
Try cleaning the MAF connector wires, try removing the connector push on and off a few times and wiggle it.

Check that the tps is putting out the right voltages. There are guides on here for that.
Also check that the throtle is opening properly and that the tps clicks when it closes.
If it was boost connected then I would think it would alsways be the same. Sounds more like and electrical foult. Can you swap mafs with someone??

The TPS would have to be reading full throttle and even then with the throttle actually shut it wont over fuel that badly. My money is on MAF sensor or leak. Hard to tell over the internet.sigpic

It is hard to tell...all the advice I have been given has been really appreciated as I am starting to loose interest in the car....and thats not good....

no I haven't....I will try and 'borrow' one...will it matter if I use a S2 as opposed to an RS2 MAF??....Comment

one thing I have noitced once it has been started it stalls after about a minute or 2...if I come to a stop..which I normally do....leaving home for work...at the top of the road or leaving work waiting to get on the main road...
A friend had a simlar problem on their chavalier...turned out to be the ecu?
Your description says 'fueling problem' spess as you failed to pull any codes.
Heater circuit in the lambda failed?Carlos.

the ECU has been homefried...but this issue has only appeared in the last week after having my leaking water mani fixed...along with the PCV system being replaced....one thing I have noitced once it has been started it stalls after about a minute or 2...if I come to a stop..which I normally do....leaving home for work...at the top of the road or leaving work waiting to get on the main road...

one thing I forgot to mention is that the engine was cleaned as there was quite a bit of oil vapour...could there be water trapped somewhere??...spark plug failure after getting wet??...
I am loosing the will...

This could easily be your problem, water in the boot of the MFTS, one of the other sensors or in one of the loom connectors on the bulkhead.Comment

Actually reading through this it really sounds like a MAF issue, have you tried unplugging the MAF and plugging it back in a few times? normally works with mine when I have these symptoms, the pins are old and corrode a little and you get a bit of contact resistance added to the hot wire, thats my theory anyway. Some good contact cleaner like Caig Deoxit helps. I have to do this about once or twice a year.Comment

heater circuit in the lambda wont affect the car. its only used for warm up, and just gets the sensor up to temp faster.
ECU failure is VERY rare too, in all the years of trading i have only seen it 3 or 4 times, and 99% of time the car doesnt run at all.
I know im bound to say this, but get the car to an expert (NOT a dealer!) and get it fixed up so you can enjoy it. It 'could' be more than one fault, it could be something todo with the previous work carried out, it could be a whole host of things.
Im 75% sure RS2 MAF is different?? Cant find the part numbers now!sigpic
