    Opening ABY ECU

I've been wanting to take a quick peek inside my ECU just to know if it is all standard in there. I'm hoping it is bog standard as the car goes pretty well as it is and I'm looking forward to extracting another 50 hp or so with a homefry.
I managed to get the ECU out without too much trouble and then out of it's 'cage'. I could see that there were some small scratches next to the tabs which hold the cover on so it would appear that it had been opened before. I was hoping that the cover would just come off ( which it did ) and that it would then be fairly easy to see the chips. I wasn't expecting to see two 'layers' of circuit boards with what looks like the chips hidden in between the two. There was a paper seal bridging the two 'layers' at one side which had already been broken but I couldn't see if/how it comes apart safely. Is it necessary/OK to split the two sections, if so can anyone tell me how to do this without damaging anything. Thanks in advance.

    ECU Opening Procedure

Here is a procedure for opening an AAN ECU (same basically):

Strongly suggest that you down load, cut and paste into a WORD doc (or the like) and save on your computer for future use.

The doc is a bit flawed... it misses an important step... you need to pop the three studs that hold the upper board at the rear (if connector is front) - THEN you can get somewhere with the cocktail stick technique !

Thanks for your help guys - I managed to open it up, the trickiest bit was getting the middle plastic 'stud' holding the two boards together to let go.

I was a bit disappointed with what was inside though, I thought the car pulled very well but was hoping it was still standard so there would be more to come with a homefry. Unfortunately a previous owner has got there first and there are some very definately non OEM chips lurking in there. I googled the number handwritten on the sticker on the fuel chip and came across someone called Megatec based in Greece !! - www.megatec.gr/audi.htm

I doubt it is good news but has anyone heard of them/used them/got one - can't find any mention of them on here. The list says +30 to + 70 hp, I suppose it's anyones guess as to what it is actually putting out, a trip to Wellingborough this weekend might be worth the drive after all !

Never heard of them before. Might be fine - see how she does on the rollers and if it disappoints then you'll know where to come
