    450-500bhp parts list

I'm starting to put together a list of think I'll need to get a nice useable 450-500bhp on the road.

    So far I have

With regards to bottom end strengthening which I think I'm going to farm out to some one to do for me. Also going to have it balanced too.
I've only got scatt rods and bearings.
    What else do I need?
    RS2 oil pump??
    New rings?
Is there any one I could send this to and say I want x y z done and they source the parts?

Wagner reverse manifold and intercooler kit
Polished and ported head with lots of exotic bits in it that I can't remember off hand (Ross' old head)
    7A cams
    3B fly wheel
    Roose hoses.

    I'm planning the following parts
Wagner evo ex manifold with T3 flange.
    Double layer head gasket
    Arp head studs or bolts?
    2.0fsi coil conversion
Uprated WG?? Or just a spring.
    Injectors, size??
GT3071 turbo, was looking at the kit on 034 and it's only kkk type flange option in the kit. I'd need a fitting kit too for oil lines ect. Also what housings do I want and also air ratio (excuse my ignorance but I have no idea what air ratio refers to)
With regards to the ecu will I be fine with just a remap?

Any input to this would be great so I can get my head around what I need.

GT3071 will barely get you to 450hp. you should go for 3076 if you want to reach your goal

      id go

      wagner tubular
turbo of your choice i like the precision units.
uprated intercooler and inlet. id go wagner again.
      injectors around the 650cc size.
      standard rail and reg.

i used skimmed standard pistons. scat rods, aby oil pump, new waterpump belts arp head studs.

      standard head will do.

      3" system
      ecu of choice.
      At least 1 044 pump

my advice would be pick the turbo first then choose the manifold. buy the wagner inlet, xmember and pipes anyway.

500 on a 2.2 is going some for road use I'd be speaking to Repo if I were you, he's involved in some big gun projects on here There's also the MRC 600, Jamo's stroker, A80Avant's 500 project and many more. Have a read, lots of info in there.

          450-500bhp on the road.

          Balanced crank clutch and flywheel
I've only got scatt rods and bearings <-- O.K
          What else do I need?
RS2 oil pump?? <-- not needed ABY and RS2 the same, 3B is different
New rings? <-- N/A see below

The biggest thing is you need to open the engine to see the state of the bores.
If you bores need to be rebored due to wear you'll need new oversized pistons.

If they are fine new rings.

Wagner reverse manifold and intercooler kit <----- Excellent

Polished and ported head with lots of exotic bits in it that I can't remember off hand (Ross' old head) <-- not required but a little port will help
7A cams <----- If you get a garrett turbo STOCK cams,
          3B fly wheel <----- yep
Roose hoses. <--- You can't use the full Roose kit with the wagner, you can only use the turbo outlet and inlet hose

          I'm planning the following parts
Wagner evo ex manifold with T3 flange. <-- Excellent
Double layer head gasket < --- forget it use this http://www.034motorsport.com/product...roducts_id=114
Arp head studs or bolts? <----- Excellent
2.0fsi coil conversion <-- crap! use 034 high output of LS2 coil set from EFI express
Uprated WG?? Or just a spring. <-- just spring 1.9 with turbosmart solenoid
Injectors, size?? <------- 600cc injectors are cheap and do the job

GT3071 turbo, was looking at the kit on 034 and it's only kkk type flange option in the kit. I'd need a fitting kit too for oil lines ect. Also what housings do I want and also air ratio (excuse my ignorance but I have no idea what air ratio refers to)

No they do it with T3 they order it from ATP just specify on ordering with oil line kit. Buy the 3071 with a .82 hotside it will give your 450 bhp

Alternative is speak to Repo about a triple bearing CT turbo CT35 I think

With regards to the ecu will I be fine with just a remap? <-- Custom MRC remap or VEMS

If you not going to build this yourself speak to Aelred he is a diamond and an excellent engine builder

500 is easily achievable from a 2.2 just the same as a stroker. boost is boost.

500whp is a different ball game

It is easier and cheaper to achieve on a 2.2 than a stroker.

The key thing here though it's a street car you want as high a band of power and torque as possible ( which stroker has the advantage of ) so don't chase bhp figures.

You would find a 2871 install might be more fun to drive on the streets than a 3076r on a 2.2 just because of the power band.

maybe. each to their own. 1 or 2 psi more will make up for the loss of CC when on boost.

i thnk when on it you want power from 4k onwards. thats what a high rpm gear change drops the rpm to.

i like the slightly lazy nature. its easier on juice too. but when 4k comes about...hell hath no fury like high end boost

Guys, i don't want to go down the stroker route purely because of cost 3k+ i'd guess to get a stroker bottom end built. I'd love to do that but for 2 reason, 1. as they saying goes "there is no replacement for displacement" and 2 would be great to keep running the car until the engine is ready. But cost rules this route out for now.
Want to try and keep lag to a minimum and have power and torque as low down the revs as i can. The way i look at it is there is no point having monstrous power, if by the time it starts to come in you have run out of road.
Thanks for the replies and advice guys keep them coming

I wasn't saying go the stroker route, I was pointing out with your requirements of 450-500 it may only be enjoyable for street driving with this setup.

For what you want If you drop your requirements to 400-450 bhp on the 2.2 engine then consider the RS2 turbo, 2871, 3071 63 ar or the CT35 turbo I think you'd be happier

I hear what you'r saying Jamo. I'm maybe expecting a bit too much dosile driveability from that high a hp. One of my mates had a Mitsy Evo what ever number, he had a nice set up of arround the 400bhp mark and spent a fortune getting it up to 600 and was not happy with how it drove, what he said was in the real world on a and b roads the 400bhp set up was alot faster and overtaking was a bit scarry too at times because of the lag
What do you guys think? Do i aim high and if i don't like it down grade to the likes of the turbos you mention above Jamo? To down grade all i'd need to do is change the injectors, turbo, ECU map and possibilly mod the DP a bit?

Better to decide on a specific turbo and get the best out if it with the setup, that way you'll get a car that is both fast and drives well, with this in mind the service that Repo offers is most tempting. 034 could advise you on the GT series and I'm sure MRC would give excellent advice on anything you car to look at

There's also the cost of the turbo, plain bearing turbos are around half the price of the fancier BB turbos FWIR.

Don't discount an RS2+ setup either, the RS2 turbo is a very good option, even more so when unleashed on a strengthened engine. A 360 degree bearing upgrade would do well and in combination with a flow job, Wagner IM, IC and EVO EM it would be serious (ask Bo on this one). Low on pub figures but high on daily driveability.

Ive driven my m8`s rs2 the other night with std spec engine reversed magner inlet + i/c and gt35 ar.63 and it was a pure beast!!
It makes 510bhp and 560nm of torque and is quite drivable, but off course with some lag with the big turbo.
Would deffo keep 2,2L as i think it has better respons then a stroker engine, even tho the stroker makes more torque

Hehe your right Andy, i like low pub figures though, especially if you take them out for a spin after they have just told you that your car is slow because its 18 years old. The 4k launch out of the parking space usually shuts them up though and once that little rs2 turbo comes on boost it packs plenty of power for town driving.

I rarely drive fast anyway so its all about the torque for me much like you.
