    Too much boost

Guys, starting to get somewhere with my boost problems today.
At first i must admit i didn't think i was getting too much boost but now after fitting a gauge i know i am lol.
Basically what would cause too much boost? Boost leek?
I've fitted new roose hoses and the rest of the vac pipes look ok but looks can be deceiving as you guys will know.
What do you think my best bet is, replace all vac pipes and go from there that way i'll know i have a leek free system.

Too much boost means wastegate not opening enough or properly. Check pipe from WGFV to WG. WG diaphragm. WGFV broken or leaky.

too much boost would be caused by the wastegate not opening properly.

      this could be down to

      1. wastegate.
      2. boost control solenoid
      3. vac leak causing the map sensor to not be abloe to regulate boost properly.

New WGFV fitted and clicking away during vagcom output test.
I had a look at the WG diaphragm too and that looks ok.

I had thought that with the boost leak causing the MAP sensor not to read right so "T"ed my boost gauge in a few cm from the ECU, so basically what my gauge reads is what my map reads.
If in say 3rd i hold the throttle wide open it goes to .9 bar no problem then creeps up and the car missfires, then the boost will drop back down to .9 bar again then start to pull hard then the boost creeps up again.

            Just been doing some serching.
This is my car that is being talked about http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...ht=wgfv&page=3 post 35 says it was getting 1.5 bar so maybe what my guage and map are reading IS wrong.

Been looking a bit further into this.
The pipe that comes from the manifold that goes to the ECU / MAP sensor is spot on and no leaks.
Been having a think, if i'm supposed to be getting 1.5bar of boost (afaik it has had a remap) the car is missfireing after.9bar could it be a faulty air flow meter?

Yes if you haven't tried the MAF yet then give that a go. Is there any one near you that could lend you one to test it?

Are you sure the car has been mapped? Who did it and does it still use all the factory boost controls?

Its also worth checking the Diverter Valve. If that has a split diaphragm it can course low boost.
To test the diaphragm remove the vac line from the inlet manifold and blow in to it and suck on it, you should be able to feel and hear the rubber diaphragm clicking and it should not leak. if it does it need replacing or upgrading.

I changed the MAF from the one from my 3b when i got the car and it ran a bit better but nothing to say that the 3b one was in good condition anyway. Not sure if anyone near me has one. Will give Raj a shout in a bit to see if he has a spare knocking about.

No idea Bo who mapped the car, i know you have worked on it in the past

                  New Diverter Valve fitted too

Hang on.. what car is this? Is it Andys old car with all the wiring coped and joined?

If thats the case then is there still a wire running from the wgfv fuse output to the wgfv?

The wire was put in as a temp fix as the original loom gave no live feed to the valve.

                      That's the one.
New wgfv fitted and vagcom output tested all seems ok.
Got a good loom for the car but not fitted it yet.

Sorry mate, that car gives me the shivers... Good luck and get that new loom in asap.

Still sounds like it could be a good old fashioned boost leak.
I presume you have checked everything over and made sure there are no splits or lose hose clips?

Haven't been following your progress with this car. Will do now though as I'm also quite curious as to what it could be.

Give me the shivers too. Ye new boost hoses on it, all hose clips tight all vac pipes look in good condition (replaced a few dodgy looking ones today).

the car is fitted with a homefry, it was boosting to 1.5 bar, and normally on a homefry you see 1.3-1.4 but dont forget it has a straight through zorst which is why you are seeing 1.5bar.
i soaked the maf (rs2 maf btw) in ipa before i swapped it for my avant. have you checked fuel pump as i put a second hand one in there at some point.
all i can say is that when i first bought the car it ran fantastic, then i sold it to jdog who quite frankly fooked it up with cheap ebay parts !
When i took the car back it was fitted with a huge manifold which when i put a stock k24 on would not boost, when i put a new stock manifold back on it it flew !!
This car used to run fantastic until jdog got hold of it.
he used a hollow tube of no more nails to act as a boost pipe
ive kept quiet about it until now, but i just know what its like trying to get this car working (it took me 2 months) and he would not answer any questions or pms.
So Gordy you have my number ring me if you want any help or to give you the previous history etc
