Just because it is called a 'leak' that doesnt mean that air is always going OUT.
if you have a torn hose say before the throttle body and the engine is idling, isnt air being sucked by the engine? wouldnt excess air be sucked from the torn hose as well as the normal route??
On the same torn hose, when ON BOOST, wouldnt air be blown out from the torn hose thus seeing less boost than normal?
By the way you keep using expressions against me that are not polite. Even you think that what i say is nonsense there are better ways to express yourself, unless manners is a consept unknown to you.
Obviously you are more mechanically inclined than others, most likely more than me, but then again so is Aelred for example than any of us in here. I dont see him calling everyone an idiot just because he knows a bit more... -
I wanted to block the PCV system off at the MAF hose but we couldnt get to the clip in the time we had available so I disconnected and plugged where the hose joins to the PCV valve. I have also said on a couple of occasions that I thought it is well possible that there is still a leak as the test we did was not conclusive The air was seeping out though a couple of leaks in the PCV line and possibly the injector O-rings. The breakthrough was that someone at some point had connected the black vac line to the ECU and the green line to the AC solenoid, the black line wasn't long enough to reach the solenoid so I plugged it and said to Steve that he needed to find a longer bit of hose.
Steve, we need to have another look at the car in daylight and do a definitive leak test, when you can pressurise the system to 1.5Bar and it holds it then we will say that it has no leaks.
I said to Steve that I thought it should be running more boost and that he should check with Paul S2Central, I thought it should be at least 1.5 Bar. My car was running 1.9 on a stock DP and decat MiltekLeave a comment:

John would you say mine is healthy then going on your theary,i do agree with what your saying .Leave a comment:

You really should be more careful about posting such misleading advice. This is nonsense. A leak can only cause LESS vacuum not more, this is obvious if you think about it, if the system was completely sealed and you sucked on it very hard you would get -1Bar, ie complete vacuum (absense of all air) More than 1Bar of Vac is impossible. High vacuum in the inlet on tickover and on the overun is a healthy sign. The PCV system is connected to the inlet manifold. When not on boost, fumes go into the inlet manifold to get burned. So im assuming that if a hole was found there, it could be sucking more air thus more vaccum, AND during boost, it could also loose some air, hence the boost being 1.3bar.
There is a check valve that connects the PCV and inlet manifold.
You could still have a leak somewhere else, it doesnt mean that the PCV is definitelly the problem.Leave a comment:

Leaking breather will allow a small leak post MAF but pre turbo so it shouldn't pee gas out. I've got some catch tanks left if you're after one, check out the for sale thread for pictures of them fitted, will help by replacing the worn out original stuff.
Boost gauge sounds a bit off, get a spare off someone local and check it with that to make sure.
Better to get it running spot on before spending money on a remap, will just highlight any problems a bit more...Leave a comment:

Did he also block the pipe from the IC though? Because that would leave out the inlet manifold etc.Leave a comment:

Thanks Bo. Im sure Newsh did block off the PCV connection and pressurised through the MAF. Could not find a leak anywhere.Did you just pressurized air in to the maf hose or did you also block it off somewhere else?
If you just pressurize the maf hose and block of the PVC connection on that hose you should be able to do a thorough check as the pistons and valves should hold the pressure in.
This will also check all your vacuum lines, dont go to mad on the pressure though. 1bar should be enough. If its not holding it or leaking out very quickly you might be able to trace a leak. Use some soapy water to spot leaks, thats how i do it and it works quite well..Leave a comment:

when i had my boost gauge on, it was 0.5 to 0.6 (-) on warm engine, 0.4 on cold engine and 0.8 to 0.9 on overrun. I think most people i have asked have the same.Leave a comment:

Does your stay there when on idle and the car is warm? Mine will be minus 0.6 bar when the car is cold and on idle. When it warms up or after blipping the throttle for the first time the vacume slowly decreases to -0.8Leave a comment:

thats ok. Try checking vaccum hoses as well. Let us know how it turns outLeave a comment:

thats good. What kind of pressure test did you do? through the MAF?Leave a comment:

Yep treble checked them. Also during a pressure test they seemed to be holding pressure well
