Why not use the UR WR alloy block instead of the crappy volvo one?

Aelred has done this before I believe and knows what is required.

Is the volvo one crappy just because its from volvo or because you have heard a lot about them going wrong or are rubbish to tune? i know of a few people with volvo 20v's in turbo and non turbo form and they seem good strong engines but none of these have been modded for extra power, in fact the non turbo 2.5 in a friends v70 has 247k miles on it and it runs as sweet as the other lads v70 with 120k on it

as for the st/rs engines i was posative they were alloy blocks but i aint 100% on that. If they are though and you can can get them cheap enough they can be re-mapped to over 300 fairly easily and would be less weight than an origional I5

didnt Audi help volvo design there 5pot? so its like a long lost cousin anyway

I'm an ex volvo owner, i know the scene inside out. Audi helped them balance the engine and there the blocks are similar yes.

However they aren't as strong as the Audi stock or Audi diesel blocks. There is zero reason to use them unless you want to be totally original

fair do's its nice to get more points of views from other areas of the car world i always think as i said ive only know of volvo engines being used in origional vehicles as family buses and not tuned up for a bit of fun now and then.

also going from transverse to longitudinal is always going to cause a bit of a headache, be easier to have the full front end made in carbon loose a couple of pounds that way instead

UR alloy block would be nice, guess the price might be a bit of a shocker though

what about touareg R5 block?, according to this link.....

            .......its aluminium

            other info i could find was 2460cc 81 bore/ 95.5 stroke...would this be correct?

think maybe Jonus racing have done this engine in a 90....obviously for huge hp...

....do you think with some custom pistons and some rods you could slap a 3b head on, remap and go for glory? just thinking for the future...

Jonus is using the "old" cast iron diesel blocks. I think he have built engines both with the audi block and the "Volvo" block. Anyway only cast iron diesel blocks.
