For me defo seems to be the quarter tank mark that it goes a bit mental. Ive taken out nad cleaned the sender unt as per Steves walkthrough linked a few posts ago.
Think ill investigate the grounding issue as well.

If the temp gauge does the same sudden drop then its the same as my coupe and something to do with the voltage reg in the cluster.

It's the last quarter mark also for me in the RS2
And I have the same problem the gauge shows a quarter or a bit less and beeeeeeeep goes the autocheck alarm...
If any of you will find a solutions for it I will very much appreciate...

On the Cabrio I had problem with an erratic petrol gauge aswell.... changed the voltage regulator (because the water temp was also erratic) but no cure...
Eventually it turned out that thermostat was blocked open.
And the petrol gauge was faulty so I changed it and now it works perfectly.
I found out that cluster from the Cabbie (1997) it's very different from the RS2 one
Single block for revs and speed instruments
Separate instrument for water and petrol but different lock on system on the cluster
also the mother board it's completely different.
