Has anyone ground the valves on a s2 head by hand,or is it a no go on these heads.
I am swapping the valves etc from my old head to another bare head and could do with any advise
Are there any potential problems or pitfalls in doing this.
You'll find you can get away without refacing the intake valves or recutting the intake seats. Just lapping the valves in first with a coarse 120 grit then with a fine 400 grit. Exhaust you will have to go some as most exhaust valves I've come across need refacing, the exhaust seats however unless burned badly (in which case you'll find worn guides that also need replacing) you will be able to lap in again with a coarse then fine.
To speed things up spray some wd40 over the seats before starting the lapping process it helps keep the grit where it needs to be to maximise it's effect with the least amount of effort.
Ultimatelly though you will benefit recutting the seats aswell if it is within your budget.
As for multiangle seats the standard seats are 45/75 degree you can fit a 30 and 60 in there too to make 4 angles. however the 30 is of no real benefit unless going for an 11mm+ lift cam. As for fitting in a 15 degree there is no space on the exhaust side for it and you'd be cutting steps into the combustion chamber on the intake unless you know someone with a 2axis seat profiler that can radius them in at the sacrifice of some midrange torque.
I have not long just done this , easy done just takes time good job for when sitting in front of the telly ...good investment for the course grinding http://www.toolsheduk.com/Q/1148/2/2...ve-Lapper.html
Finish the fine compound by hand
