    Fuel pump or electrical fault?

    Hi all,

I've picked up an S2 for a friend and said I'd try and get it started up before he gets it so he can crack on with making it nice again (it's been off the road for a number of years)

It had apparently been started regularly but now doesn't. It has about 11Bar compression across all 5 cylinders and the plugs are sparking so I gathered it is a fuel fault. There is fuel in the tank and I added 10 litres just to be sure. There was a trickle of petrol at the fuel rail unions but no pressure so I checked just in front of the bulkhead at the feed and return unions, and there was no fuel coming through there either.

I'm just wondering which feeds at the pump (which I haven't found time to even find yet) I should be looking for, and also are they constant or is there only a voltage when cranking? (I'm working by myself at the minute so just want to find the easiest way of determining if it's a feed problem, and if so then fuse, relay or immobiliser? If not then I need to look for an upgraded pump for him.)

Any advice would be most welcome

    Thanks.

The fuel pump relay is in position 10 in the fusebox under bonnet. If you take the plastic cover off it and push the contacts together it should pump fuel if this is the case all the wiring is intact and the pump is in good order.

You then need to check to make sure the timing pin is intact on the flywheel.

Cheers Tonks, I guess I need to do some searching for the flywheel pin if your first tip doesn't work. If it gets too in depth he'll have to have it back as is, but I'd like to at least get it fired up for him so he can move it about. You're not too far actually as the car is currently in Burton.

Andy, no it's not the same car as far as I'm aware as it's not written off, just been left standing and is now pink instead of red and has moss growing out of the sills

But thanks, as the link you put into the other thread may prove useful

                No!

I think the guy who bought it has already been on here asking questions about it. Looks like he's got his ( or your! ) work cut out on that one.

Oh, I see. I just figured if I can get it running for him he can get the rest of the jobs sorted, as I reckon it'll be a right labour of love, so all the real effort will be his, and I can get back to wrecking 200's and Skylines.
