    single speed pacet fan

    Guys,

Looking to replace my broken 3b bosch fan with a Proline Pacet fan but it seems that its a single speed only.

Given that there are a couple of speeds on the OEM unit, is this likely to cause problems? Depending on exactly which kit, they shift a fair volume of air:

If possible, I'll get one which retains the current fan cowling to make it more efficient but any thoughts or personal experience with a pacet fan much appreciated

    Cheers
    David

    i looked into this.

think its a 13" pacet pro.

yes they are single speed. fitted one on my corrado. basically. wire the fan to the low or the high. depends when you want it to kick in.

they are super powerful and about 1/2 weight of factory and 1/3 thickness maybe less.

i used one on the G60 to aid the supercharger piping as it was rad out for everything with the factory.

what id suggest is get a fitting kit and attach it to the rad and fit the cowling over it. if the cowling wont fit fit the fan in the corner closes to the thermostat.

look for 1600cfm or more. i had 1668 on a 12 inch on the C. it would hold a rag on the front of the radiator.

cheers Gaz - did it hold the temps firm too? The car is used mainly for blats and tracks these days so It needs to be comfortable in dealing with higher temps really.

was fantastic. only really kicked in for a few seconds at a time. i wired mine to the low wire IIRC. the corrado has the resistor pack in the fan not outside. try and aim for 2000cfm for extra good cooling.

the shroud is worth up to 30% or so too.

Why not do that but place a resistor to the low between the terminal and the fan conector, conect both to it and then hey presto your high and low speed returned...... put something like a 15 or 20ohm at the rated wattage and this should do the trick......

sounds simple.....however you under-estimate my total lack of electrical prowess

so in theory that would give back the two speed approach - would be good for the a/c and the afterrun too if i could retain that...

if you can point me in the direction of the things i would need, i'd be very keen to do that

Yes baisicly by adding a resistor to the 12v feed of the low speed cable you would retaine both speeds, all you need to find out is the wattage usage of the curcit, if you pick one thats too low it will burn out instantly, to big would be no problem.

And should have been .20ohm sorry

.33ohm would doo, this one is 100w not sure if it will be enough, the wattage rating should be on the new fan!

                here we gofor the 14" KPF1411 fan 12v X 12.29amps =147.48w, so 100w will definetly not doo......
say 13.5v to be on the safe side too, so 13.5x12.29=165.915w

                perfect!

                      if it works......

i wire is simple. cant see point in 2 speeds other than to relieve the sudden V drop.

i want fan in least possible.

He wants 2 speeds I told him how to get it, it will work, and the hi/lo wont affect the voltage drop, it will drop the same as it works on resistance not current usage!

The resistance of this one is a little higher than we first spoke about but it will doo, you cant really predict what speed the fan will run at really but it will definetly run slower.....

cheers for that. for the moment i have it connected to speed 1 but would like the dual speeds so for £15 lets see what it does. and both the wires into the resistor one side right?

                              Thanks again
