    Help Required

    Hi Guys,
A new one to make my head scratch

Installed an AAN into a type 89 4 door saloon, I have removed all the aan components and fitted ABY stuff.

I have used an ABY loom and a non immob AAN ecu.

I have used a 7a flywheel and clutch and have replaced the cambelt, plugs etc.

When it is cranked the fuel pump relay is activated, the injectors fire and I have a spark.

    But it will not run.

I have checked the timing pin location on both the 7a flywheel and the AAN flywheel.
For future referance there is 38 teeth between the (0) marker and the firing pin on both flywheels.

I have lined the cambelt up in the usual way and was also sad enough to count the teeth on the belt between the two pullies so am happy that the timing is correct.

When it cranks it sounds like it is a timing issue now and again it will pop and fart like it is trying.

    Any idea's?

could it be the same problem as i had, where the 7A flywheel pin is too small for the sensor to pick up,therefore it doesnt start?
you may need to make the pin larger, like a block, in order to be seen by the sensor

Surely if the sensor could not see the pin. The ecu would not trigger the earth to the fuel pump relay?

        .

I know its a silly one but...

You have set the engine for tdc on compression and not 'tdc' on exhaust?

It sounds 180 out, however before i took the belt off I rotated to line up the marks, counted teeth, marked the belt, then just swapped the new one on....

I trust the chap that supplied the engine and it was a running lump so got me baffeled...

the sensor is to check rpm signal. it will turn over but may not start.
in mine it started but wasnt able to keep proper rpms as it was going all the way to 1500rpm and shooting upwards rhymicall. I was using vems, but according to Marc, on motronics usually they couldnt start, but did turnover

its not that it cannot see the pin completelly, its a magnetism problem, it can barely see it, so it can partially work.

                Okay, nuther silly one...

Fuel lines...correct way round, the pump may be working but are you actually getting fuel to the rail?

Yes put the fuel feed lines on the right way round so the fuel returns after the pressure regulator and the plugs are getting fuel to them and all 5 cylinders have a good spark when i turn it over with them all out on the rocker cover...

                    .

I'd still want to check for fuel at the rail and truly make sure it is getting there?

You may have power at the pump but it could still be dead?

                    To run you need...

                    timing
                    fuel
                    spark.
