Yeh, after spending a small fortune on parts i'll be checking my timing this weekend, i did change the cam belt this winter but used the dots on the timing case, which i have since found is unadvisable, and the mark on the flywheel/bell housing should be used instead, i'm a mechanic, i should know this!!

Mine is ok untill it reaches 3500 then surges and hessitates terribly. It holds good boost but just feels like the timing is being retarded and poor valve timing would explain that as much boost+poor timing would result in pinking and the knock sensors would pick up on this and act accordingly! Also i have an S6 saloon, which, although much more tired just generally feels more 'enthusiastic' and makes the avant feel heavy and lazy, timing would also explain this.

Failing this, the car is fitted with an aftermarket cam sensor, so i may want to buy i good one!

Well i checked it yesterday and i'm afraid its spot on!

The boost will start to build and as soon as it peaks at 1.4 bar (been re-mapped) It feels like the ignition is being retarded or isn't getting enough fuel or something.

Spink has been good enough to lend me a boost leak check kit, which i will try next week, but i would expect the boost gauge to drop right off if it was a boost leak, or is that not the case (???)

What ever it is. its gradually getting worse, which is good in a way as it'll be easier to find!

        Any ideas are welcome
