Agreed, they sound nice inside the car, but I find you only really appreciate it with the windows down and the sunroof open.
I have remapped car with no CATs and a Milltek 2.74" system and IMO is sounds amazing! I will have to get someone else to drive it and record it though, as I don't think you can truely appreciate it from inside the car.
Adding the Milltek to mine was a revelation. It went from an average sound that you could detect as deep but smooth, to a more snarling race car deep roar. I am personally convinced it sounds better than all the ferrari's and porsches etc around here that seem to have motorbike sounding high pitched exhausts....
