    Holset turbo help--> wich choice

    Hee guys,

question. I'm in for a new turbo for my stock AAN.

I am planning to rebuild my AAN this winter, with VEMS, Hbeam's, siemens deca 630cc, 3 inch exhaust and a holset.

i have two choice lying around:

    first a new HX40 with a Billet 54 mm compressorwheel and a 16 cm#2
    wastegate turbinehousing (actuator 1.86 bar)

second to the 54 mm Billet compressor side 60 mm a exducer
turbinewheel with an12 cm#2 turbinehousing (1,65 bar) so it will be a HX35-54billet/60/12A. faster spooling .

witch one would you choose for good driveability

i would go for option no2
i tried the hx40 with the BEP 0.70ar housing and gave me 1.7bar @ 4700rpm on 3d gear.

if i were to choose again i would go for an HX35 hybrid with 60mm comp wheel and HX35 turbine wheel with custom made hotside

Indeed, put the 60/86mm HX40's compressor on the HX35 CHRA & turbine :mischeif:

A80Avant: Which hotside would you use then?

i dont know.Would probably either go with a BEP they sell for mitsubishi and use a similar plate for downpipe, or get the K26#6 and machine it. A garrett turbine housing could also work, but needs a check

Depends on the A/r of your hotside. Mitsu Eclipse/Talon/DSM guys claim to get 600hp out of the 54mm compressor. The 60/86 could flow up to 700hp.

@ A80: Do you have the drawings to machine a hotside? I was thinking about using some Tial housings, but i don't like to spend $500 on housings finding out that they can't be modified to fit...

              no unfortunatelly i dont.
Billman had done this on the K26 turbine housing and it looked that it was way too small fo rthis turbine wheel, but it worked for him. Personally i would try and find a used turbine housing, even cracked to do all the measurements and checks and then go from there. Unfortunatelly there is noone i know that has done this.Which is why in the end i didnt continue my luck with holsets, although i do believe they are very good. The easiest solution is the .54AR on the mitsu, where any exhaust place can use a plate to match it. Doesnt have to use all bolts.

Sorry to barge in, but does anyone have a suggestion for a small holset turbo for around 320-350 hp (engine, not whp)?
I'd like the spool to be like the K24 7000 or better...
HE221W perhaps? Can't find any compressor maps for it though...

why would you like to go on 320-350hp?

this target you can get with rs2 parts, but slower spool...

when you will spend the money for rs2 parts, you can get for the same money 430-450hp with COMP TURBO ct 355, and have full boost at 3800 rpm

that thing I will do very soon.

Because I need fast spool. I only drive (98%) in the city, I have nothing to do with a turbo that spools slower than K24-7000.
You can't have fast spool and huge power, and the RS2 turbo is too laggy imo.
I don't know why people are obsessed with a HP number. I am not planning to go on a drag strip, it's my daily driver and fast spool is much more important than HP could ever be.

My turbo currently is using a bit of oil and my exhaust manifold has some nasty cracks...
So, I already need a new (or rebuilt) turbo and a new EM. Might as well get a bigger cooler and injectors and put something a bit newer than 70-s technology under the bonnet.

Also, the RS2 turbo is way too expensive for what it does... I don't think the cost will be really different between using a RS2 turbo and something else. No reason to use RS2 parts.

sorry but my opinion is ...
if your drive is 98% in city, than you don't need 320hp under the hood. because NOW you don't use a half of HP what you have..

even I don't know what car you have, for example S2... than use your s2 for 2% of ride with 450hp. but it will be quality drive.

find some golf for every day city drive...

because 2.2 20vt is not engine for a city drive, you will kill them very soon, and with 320hp much earlier .

                        But I do...
I don't live in a big crowded city. Traffic jams don't exist here. I guess I should maybe say better "town".
And atm I am using all my HP almost every day, don't worry. My country is probably also different from yours. Small citycars are not that popular here, because outside of our capital we do not have an issue with room... or parking... or too many cars.
It is very hard to explain, I guess the only way would be to install a camera in my car and show you
even I don't know what car you have, for example S2... than use your s2 for 2% of ride with 450hp. but it will be quality drive.
S6 avant, it is a lot heavier than S2, so until turbo spools over 1 bar, not much happens, it is very sluggish. I also really don't need multiple cars... If I had a job where I would need to drive around all the time, then it could be nice to have my own car besides the work car, but it is not the case for me.
find some golf for every day city drive...
                        No thanks. I hate golfs.
because 2.2 20vt is not engine for a city drive, you will kill them very soon, and with 320hp much earlier .
I disagree. Of course if you put a huge turbo that spools at 5000 rpm, it is useless, because by the time it spools you are already almost over the speed limit.

I am not at all looking for HP. I need to rebuild or replace my turbo, so I am thinking to replace it with a small holset instead of another k24 7000 or rebuilt k24 7000, because I have to get a new EM either way.
I don't even need more power than I have now. The power is fine, if I could have a bit faster spool.
Also, a non-standard setup of injectors, turbo etc will be a lot more fun to map for me. Using RS2 parts and standard chips is boring

Either way, you don't buy a 20vt car because you need to go from point A to point B, the real reason is very different. I don't think a debate on practicality will get us very far, so why not suggest a nice small turbo for me?
I looked at GT28RS, but it is expensive and if I plot the compressor map, it seems like it will surge unless I forcibly delay the boost, and that is pointless...

that could be very interesting with camera and drive around, because there is 0,1% that I will go into Estonia. but thing is a cool State.
love to travel but not that far away...

well I thing that we live almost at similarly town , my have 50000 citizens , and I can use my 303 hp in every moment.

maybe this program (revo sms) will be good for you, it go on stock injectors, you just need turbo and ecu. turbo is KKK26 14-70 (mtm turbo). maybe 300-400rpm latest spool but it hit to 1.4 bar not 1.1 like stock, it's a big different.

I have it in my audi 200 20v and we mesure the time from 0-100km/h it's 5.3s .

from 100-250 go maybe a few seconds faster than stock,an I run on it 280km/h

when I put this ECU in the car... first week i run on K24/7000 and it since that is stronger than k 26, but don't know how did they response after 140km/h because I didn't try. maybe better, maybe not...

here is a small video in 4th gear with k 26

the traffic was wrong, and I was alone in car.

try to thing about this ECU... for me is perfect... but when you try more power, you need more, and more... like kokain so I need CT 355 (for now).

and one more thing, engine suffering much more if you have 1,5 bar on 3000rpm , than 2bar on 5500rpm...

I have it, and I don't like it. The fuel map is almost untouched, I would need to re-tune it.
Again, it spools 300-400rpm later. I don't want that, I want the same spool, and small holset turbos should spool better than the K24-7000.
Basically I am looking for something of GT2871 spooling potential from holset.

Can easily get 1.6 bar with the stock turbo at 3000 rpm, but that's not the point. You really have to try to bend rods even with a K24-7200. I am looking for a smaller turbo, so I think I will be fine.
