@alun: a stock K24 will never do 330-340HP on an S2. This is purely impossible. Why try to cut corners and do something that no one has succeeded doing when lots of people (including myself) have spent lots of time and effort to get to the conclusion that a K24 cannot do anything above 300HP reliably? The reason why this will never happen is because the current K24 hot side that the S2 turbo has is simply too small for those power levels. You are generating too much back pressure with that hot side to ever make 300+ achievable.

      Karlos,

I am in porthcawl and would like to meet up some time.

      Minhea,
I respect the fact that you and others have a vast knowledge and have no doubts that a standard K24 will not achieve more than 300hp.

My idea was to create a hybrid using my exsisting K24 but if you are suggesting this is not possible then I am obviously wasting my time.

I was only thinking of using the K24 as I like the smooth low down power delivery with only a small amount of lag. My goal is 330 - 340hp.
I would appreciate your advise as i am speaking to a company today. I hoped that If a good hybrid is sourced then you would do the remap. I have one of your 3b chips and have enjoyed it but feel it is time to move on to something with a bit more power.

If I am talking through my *** apologies in advance

      Regards

      Alun.

I spoke to Eric about the 'small hybrid' fitted to his Nothelle conversion. He recently got it reco'd by AET and they provided a full list of all the internal components. They did this as the casing numbers had been removed by Nothelle. This turbo could be cloned. On the Nothelle mapping it runs to ~315bhp with the ABY manifolds. I dunno what camshafts are used in the Nothelle engine. I assume it is ABY intercooler and green Bosch injectors but I'm not sure

Think Eric posts here as EricD - I can chase him up for this info - as I'd like to know more about that turbo with the need to reco my K24 this year sometime.

I remember posting whether the Nothelle could be cloned, keep us informed of this one as it would be a cheaper upgrade than the RS2 route.

I wonder if AET would reco the K24 to the Nothelle spec?

            Question what in stock S2 power 220hp max in 6500 t/m ?, (10 valves turbo 200 bp) ???
Ten valves generated realy 20hp ???. Nice !
I have simulated this config and I finding an error in timing and duration stock cameshafts.
Cameshafts optimised deliver more power +(50-70)hp in 7000 t/m & torque.
You can try youself simulation in this engine.

Ok Spoke to AET very helpfull.
Apparently the Nothelle turbo is practically the same as the RS2 which would explain why its power is around 320 - 330hp.

As Minhea says the k24 is no good for over 300 I belive its the hot side that limits this.

AET offered me an alternative turbo that is a direct replacement which is a K26/27 hybrid with 360 deg thrust bearing and has a k26 wheel and bearing housing. power is similar to the RS2 with a little bit more lag than the k24 spooling up around 5-600rpm later. A part exchange for the k24 comes in at £850 plus vat.

Also I was offered a Garret GT28 also good for around 380hp this was alittle bit more expensive at £1100 plus the dreaded also a kit is needed to enable fitting. I think I am going to go with the tried and tested RS2 turbo but just wanted to see for myself what was about.

Anyone have any thoughts about the K26/27 and GT28 as mentioned above?

              Alun.

Alun, I don't mean to slander AET but DON'T get their K26/27. It is LOTS laggier than an RS2 turbo, less efficient running the same boost, and barely capable of the same power. If you compare it to a K24, you'll think something has gone wrong with your car.

If you want a good compromise between power and torque, get the RS2 turbo, it's low-RPM response and low lag can hardly be beaten.

                  Minhea,

                  RS2 it is then.

Where is the best/cheapest place to get one? Please advise on injectors, fuel pump etc I want 330 - 340hp.

Im hoping to purchase in the early summer then I will require your services for the custom remap treatment.

                  Regards

Ok so here are the details I've found so far on the turbo:

                    Turbo no (p/no ???) : 5324 980 7200

                    Serial no : 36361x (035512.k24)

I've always indentified it as an RS2 'small hybrid' with the 'smaller' compressor wheel to reduce spinup/lag, It's defintely seems easier to class it as a very slightly modified RS2 unit (I was told it was just an rs2 unit with all the marking removed by Nothelle, which is unsual as they were known for sticking their name & label on things like springs !!!) Grant at AET is the guy you wanna talk to for more details , use the 36361 serial number in any communication as that uniquely identifies this unit to them.

Other details I can confirm are (as far as I know ...), standard cams, green injectors, polished & gas flowed head , ABY intercooler, modified EM, and the Nothelle/MTM ecu modification.

I remember reading a while back that a few people had tried to clone the Nothelle ecu internals with differring results, I'm awaiting to see the results from the RR day to see if it's doing what it should...

since this thread is being currently referenced by another , only new update I have is that the N300 upgrade did NOT utilize the green injectors .

I've been in contact with AET (grant) recently to try and get to the bottom of the exact spec of the 'hybrid' turbo, still waiting for a reply , only other thing I can clarify is that the original turbo only had a 270 degree crank/thrust bearing, I got that changed to a 360 as my understanding was it would take more punishment/hp (bearing in mind I'd blown the turbo at a little over 21k miles.. )

Thats an interesting fact Eric, only a 270 thrust bearing

Wonder if the RS2 has a 360 thrust bearing as standard?
