ADU camshaft pos. sensor causing lack of high end power?

    Hi,

About to buy an RS2, but there remains one problem that the owner recently told me. Since about 2 weeks it appears that it goes well, but the power sort of fades out at higher RPM. As for the rest, it runs ok, starts well, etc.

The owner had it checked today at a specialist, and they found 1 faultcode -> The camshaft position sensor, and according to them that is certainly the reason of the problem that only recently came up.

Just to check with you guys, is this plausible?

    many thanks!

it could be, but make sure that you have that changed, as it is expensive to replace and it would be a good idea to have it new in.

Keep in mind that this fault code will always be there, as long as the engine is not running. Start the engine and fault code is gone.

I had a reciept for a replacement one on my S2 from a couple of years ago. Part is ~£50/60 from bosch directly. Audi dealer will be more.

Most of the cost of the job comes from the fact that it is located behind the camshaft pulley. That means that the timing belt needs to come off. And while your in there jobs.... Thermostat, new belt and tensioner, etc etc. And quite a lot of labour to get the front end of the car "configured for maintenance".

No it doesn't, done this on 2 s2''s now, cable tie the cambelt to the cam pulley so the timing remains the same or mark the pulley and cambelt with tipex, remove change sensor and refit.

No need for full cambelt replacement at all!

some will say this is cutting corners Jamo, but i served my time on vauxhalls and VW`s where cambelt tensioners were the waterpumps....... easy yes...... cutting corners...... depends on customers financial position and service interval, i ALWAYS advise punters to change but if they cant afford it or dont want to then that is fine also.

changed these on many VAG stuff, seem to create probs on various models, mainly passats.

Avantus, if you buy the car make sure the cam timing is right, worked on a few cars where tiing was incorrect and said it had a sensor fault, also in the AAN/ABY/ADU the wiring runs alongside the clynder head and water feed for turbo, this gets hot and can make the wiring faulty also, check this before spending any money its free lol

whoa Jamo...... i said some would think it is cutting corners, i do not as ive done it many times!

i wasnt having a go, just putting it accross so other users who dont work in garages get both pictures.

i am new to the forum and because of this people class me as a numpty but truely this isnt the case..... my new workshop is called Dubsteps, clearly VAG aimed open for business in Essex as of now
