My car has MTM stage 1 tuning, what are peoples views on this setup? Is a homefry better?
I know it's only a short question but everyone here has homefrys and just wondering if that would be better for me?
Cheers
Mike
See next post for boost leak.....

Reason: Suspected boost leak just occured
Depends a lot if you have 3B or not. MTM stg1 for 3B uses the original 200kpa MAP and that's the limiting factor. If you have ABY then there is probably no significant difference. Perhaps Paul has made the homefry a bit leaner than MTM. MTM seems to use a bit rich mixture at the mid range and low boost.
It doesnt matter now just dropping my little bro into town.....heard what seemed to be something poping or passing underneath the car.....now big boost leak heard what seemed to be a boiling type noise from somewhere around the inlet manifold.....major whooshing on acceleration. AHHHHHH!
I have no idea what to do know......got undertray off as i though a fluid might be dripping maybe there was but can only see slight deposits of grease etc as usual but there is a whity almost sort of corrosion deposit on one hose which looks like its dripped down.
Need some help here.....looks like it's going to be off the road for a while!
I have a 3B with stage 1MTM chip, and it's a very good piece of kit. By all accounts it runs rich - the cars who followed me at the track day at Bedford recently all testified to that! It means you get some fun pops and flames every now and then: on Tuesday night I must have got at least 6 pops on the overrun coming home round the South Circular, which is always nice to hear! I think it runs rich to control exhaust manifold temperatures, is that right?
What I don't know is whether the current homefrys for a 3B are any better - MTM are well respected for Audi tuning certainly. Would a 3k MAP make much difference with the stock turbo?
@Greenm3, do you have a 3B or an ABY? Glad you found your boost leak!

I'm guessing, but I think with the stock turbo, there's not much more to be done with just a re-chip, even if you put in a 3kpa map? Mihnea could probably shed more light on it?

Running rich is as bad as running to lean, most chip companies do it as the use the extra fuel as coolant! expensive coolant!
I'll fly the ABY homefry flag, as for the 3B i'd ask someone like Beetie who's running it.
Its a fine line between rnning rich and lean. Most ppl go for rich as it keeps the EGT's lower prolonging turbo life. But if you want good power/torque then there is no point messing about. Run it a bit lean

Very true, but it's an all too common practice, if i had my way i'd ban things like FSE valves. Think of all the oil washed off by the extra fuel.......
I can't remember maybe Paul can confirm but i'm sure the optimum fuel mixture is 12:1 and not 14.7:1 (going off memory!! if i'm wrong apologies)
