Mixture Adaptation and Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation error codes

    Yo

Trying to clear two error codes:

    00561 - Mixture Adaptation
13-00 - Adaptation Limit (Mul) Not Reached

00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation
11-10 - Control Limit Not Reached - Intermittent

Been googling for those codes and the normal reply seems to be that the MAF needs cleaning. Thought I should ask here first because I guess someone have had the same codes.

Read about some peeps lowering the part with the thread into some sort of alcohol solution. What's your take on that and what different cleaning method have you guys successfully tried?

S2 Coupé 1994 but the MAF is from RS2.

Did you remap with the rs2 maf, They are a little different I think ? maybe that could be the problem

No, that can't be the problem. The only difference between them is that RS2 has a different screen in front of the MAF, electrically they are the same, and their output is exactly the same.

Also, it sounds like your lambda (oxygen) sensor is bad based from those codes.

What symptoms are you getting? Try unplugging the Maf and just cleaning the connector.

Need a new lambda sensor 1st things 1st. You get that as well if the injectors are incorrectly sized to the ecu mapping

I had an adaptation code and it was the Lambda, car drove a bit rough with that code.

The chip is for RS2 and everything in the car is RS2... ECU rebuilt to RS2 spec and all other parts genuine RS2-stuffs. So that's not the issue here.

Honestly.... There aren't any major symptoms and I don't even notice that the fault code is there.. Sure, maybe it's a bit uneven on idle and a bit "rough". But it still runs good. I will read that thread you linked to, thanks.

Injectors are RS2 and correct for the ecu mapping. Guess I could try with a new lambda sensor but it ain't that old. And when I google on the error codes people seems to have solved it by cleaning or replacing MAF. Might start there and clean the connectors as earlier suggested.

I have the brilliant roose motorsport hoses and have removed the stuffs that normally rubbs against that hose, so it's in top condition. Will check for leaks again just to be sure though.

Aaah... Cool. Might try to get hold of one tomorrow then.

Hum. Well... Seems like the jury is out and that I need a new lambda then.

Thanks guys. If someone have more suggestions, keep em coming. I'll report back if I make any progress.

if you've recently replaced hoses (whetever make), keep checking and retightening them until they all stabilize, usually a good few weeks during summer temps, then look at them again as the temps drop in the autumn as they'll usually go another few turns/clicks, i'm assumming you've got decent or at least new clamps when u put on the new hose kit ?

                      Yep. No problem there.

Lambda sensor replaced, for now the codes are gone but those intermittent errors are sneaky *******s so I'll be keeping an eye at it. Thanks guys!

Clear them a couple of times.
If they stop coming back, all is well.

Been driving some more now and this code is back:

                            00561 - Mixture Adaptation
13-00 - Adaptation Limit (Mul) Not Reached

Found an interesting thread about it here:
Hi all just looking for a bit of advice on where to turn next?? Been having trouble with this code for about the last week.. I know its not the MAF as i have onl replaced it in the last 2 weeks coz the other one was busted. Car runs well for about 2 days each time i delete the codes. When it...

Anyone has more suggestions about that code in particular? Clean the MAF? Clean the injectors?

Try a MAF from another car and see if it goes away and if the car feels sharper from 2000 to 4000 rpm.

                              P.S.
With these mafs it is usually useless to clean them. Cleaning helps mainly with hot film based MAF's, because the hot wire ones that are used in our cars clean themselves.
