Electric Supercharger has anybody tried it

Evening gents, I was driving along today thinking about boost and lag. I was thinking about something David said to me yesterday about spooling up the turbo quickly. In a moment of inspiration I thought I could find a small efficient powerful fan and install it somewhere in the intake line to act like a supercharger, hence getting the turbo to spool quicker by producing exhaust gasses quicker.

So by the time I arrived home earlier I had the whole thing sorted in my mind and I was going to make a fortune out of it. Unfortunately it seems that someone got there before me http://www.electricsupercharger.com/index.html ; 13 years ago actually.

The extra HP these guys talk about would be irrelevant as the fan would only need to work up to say 3000 RPM, then the mother and father of a turbo could kick in. I don't think it's about HP at all.

So my question is has anybody tried this on an I5T?
And secondly does anybody have any opinions on the feasibility of it actually making a difference?
And thirdly how much more can a stock ABY engine take in relation to low down power.

I've read this excellent thread about the mechanical supercharging but it's a complex process, especially the clutch, the piping and the space for an extra filter. It all seems like overkill.

Feedback required good or bad please before I start performing surgery.

electrically assisted and development of variable vane geometry turbos are the future, theres a good reason you'd never heard of this "electric supercharger" before matey - they don't work.
    1psi boost? pft!

wasn't really thinking about 1 psi TBH more like 15 psi, with a parallel input rather than a series one. Just to get the turbo kicked into life. Made for an interesting 150 miles in my mind earlier...

that variable vane electric assist turbo sounds like the real deal that's for sure.

The theory of electricaly operated fans to provide boost is absolutely sound and makes sense.
The practicality of it is very limited. Although i would be suprised if no one is experimenting with this system tied in alternator switchers or what ever they are called (disconect the alternator at WOT). Or Bleed storage systems like a pressure accumulator for boost rather than oil.

                        what turbo you on?

the fan may help flow a bit of air in but then it resricts the turbo as soon as it spools.

                        props to the thinkers though.

regarding how much power can it take low down its more about how much can it make.

After embracing it, become good friends with your lag so that eventually you can always second guess when he is coming out to play. That way you can be standing at the door with your boots on when he arrives

In other words, drive through the corner so that Mr Lag has already been and gone by the time you want full boost on exit

                          Cheers n

@ Gazza I'm just running stock at the moment, big plans without the dosh to back 'em up at the moment.

Photo attached of roughly what I was bending my poor little brain about. There's a few valves missing etc.

It's technically possible to increase the volume flow rate of air earlier using something like this, but not possible to generate the pressure needed for the ecu to notice and difference in pressure, and supply more fuel.

The ECU injects fuel BASED on flow in MAF systems and based on pressure in MAP systems.
If the flow or pressure changed at all using a such gizmo, it would of course inject more fuel.
Power comes not from injecting more fuel, it comes from BURNING more fuel. If you inject more fuel without getting more air, you will run RICH and LOSE power...
Flow and manifold pressure are in a direct relation between each other. That's why you can make a MAF sensor using MAP, IAT and RPM inputs on a turbocharged car and using TPS and RPM inputs on a NA car.

Please stop talking about this thing seriously, god kills a kitten every time you do
