034 Main Bearings dont fit right.

    Hy,

I have bought a set of Main Bearings, Coated, Audi I5 10v/20v from 034motorsport. They all fit nice except the one with the thrust washers:corey:. Look at the photograph. Someone ever had a problem with this?

The main coated ones from 034 are not for turbo applications, they are 7a bearings coated.

Turbo ones have separate thrust washer

At the 034 site they says its for the 10 and 20V engine's.

But thanks for the info! Let's see what 034 has to say about this.

Dunno but these bearings are softer than the RS2 ones which are hardened. For the turbo car you should buy the RS2 or the Glyco bearings

Good luck. The 7A engine IS a 20v. Just not 20Vt like you need.

I have to agree although I know US guys have used them.

I am surprised you didn't order OEM or Glyco competition bearings from Aelred

I have ordered a lot from 034 incl the main and rod bearings. The rod bearings are oem rs2 one's. It looks i have to order another set of mains. You say Aelred sells them? I really didn't know that.

                Tanks,

I've also made these post at 034. Maybe interesting to read.

The bearing make up is the same for all I5 engines on the mains it is only the big end bearings that are sputter on the rod side, cap side is the same again. However as previously mentioned the mains and thrust should be a seperate entity. The one piece ones tend to eat into the crank as they have less contact surface area.

                      The NM / 7A are softer than the 3B / ABY / RS2 ones

                      NA ones are 034 198 491 A
                      Turbo ones are 034 198 491 C

This is from when I did my research before buying the glyco competition bearings from aelred

^^^ok KS lists the same materials within the bearings according to their catalogue. Guess they simplified production over the standard Audi ones.

As well as the different materials used in the various available mains shells, there are also some subtle differences between various bearings with respect to the grooving on the bottom mains shells.

The OEM shells listed for the turbo engine also have longer 'half' oil grooving on the lower shells.

Now it been a while now since I have played with engines but I am fairly sure that the I5T OEM turbo mains do have a hardened lower shell ...

Pic below of the oil groove differences

Yep - hardened for S2/RS2 applications... seek ye a KolbenSchmidt (KS) catalog - the uprated ones for RS2 are 'sputter' type which is name for process by which they apply the hardened coating. Pretty sure Glyco do the sputter types too.

I am advised to file the half of the notch of the bearing. How do you people think about that???

I tried to fit them in a 7A engine and the don't fit. It's 100% a production fault.
