Knock Senor hearing

Hi,

i have made this Knock sensor cable suggested by Marc and sometimes i hear the engine sometimes i only hear noise.

Where could be the problem?

I also hear something like knock at about 1500-2200 RPM on the 90 - 100 KPA regions (-0.9 to 0 bar relative)

Is this knock or is it piston kipping or something like this? At this region i have 25-26 ignition.

would appreciate your opinions.

thats a really bad recording. can you amplify the input on your pc a bit more? the output with the same cable on my thinkpad is a lot cleaner. see here for an example of what knock sounds like using that cable, listen between 21 to 23 seconds in. you can't miss it.

i have heard yours and it got me thinking that something is wrong with my cable...maybe shielding? I have used simple headphones cable: 2 cables running parallel one for left one for right ear.

i think is it no knock, it sounds like the rattle from the valves or cam chain....

Knock is heavyer i mean and at this RPM Map~100 you can take the ignition easyly to 30°.....

This is the problem to differentiate between knock and engine ratlle.....

my engine is a stroker and the timing is different to 2.2 engine.

the sound is audible when the windows are open and i pass near a wall and the sound reflects.

I think with the stroker you can give more advance, because the bore is bigger and the comp. is more like 8,0:1 ...?

The question is, how much knock can be / is possible without damage the engine....?!

What fuel do you run, 98 super plus ?

my map runs more advance than the map that was used on Brams 2.2 setup.

Only place it runs more on the 2.2 is cruise around 3400 rpm, now I think my map could do with tweaking to get near to 40 degrees on cruise

I have less timing than that, and i'm running a lower CR than you so you probably need to drop it a couple of degrees as your timing maybe too agressive.

I look at a Pnanassy mapped stroker with higher CR and that's running lower still than mine with an aggressive ramp-up to 2400 rpm
