    Centrifuge Oil Filtration

    had a filtration moment.

looks like a good idea. Something else to try and squeeeeze in.

    anyone used one?

says its powered by engine oil but also has an air pump and air inlet on the centrifuge in the pic...sooo...

unfortunate that they havent got any specs or info on the kind of restriction on the oil flow this causes.

We use two of them on each of our diesel engines at work (marine diesels, 3.5MW a piece). You'd be surprised at the stuff that you get out of a worn engine, it's like tar that is left behind, we change the filters every 250 hours. These are the ones that we use Linky

I can't see the point in fitting one to a car though, we have about 1500 litres of oil in each of our sumps, so oil changes are a no-no, but on a car it's just much easier to change the oil every 3000 miles. The dimensions of the one that you have found would mean it would probably need to live in the boot.

These are just my thoughts after working with them, grand for industrial applications, maybe impractical for domestic use.

i was thinking more on the quality of filtration. If you spend thousands building a performance motor but use it as a daily hack i wonder if this would be a worthwhile investment. It can filter <1micron. Thats got to give better mileage on engines with ball bearing turbos and tighter clearances.

Another option is a bog roll filters such as these.

Both these and the centrifuge systems run on a bypass circut so shouldn't restrict oil flow.

Yes the bypass type "bog roll" filter are very good. We use them on large gen set engines along with oil analysis. We could extend oil drains 10 times as long as we could with no by pass setup. I saw versions that were compact enough to use on a s2.

You mean like a scavenge filter before the pump? Like used on a dry sump?

i would imagine that to only go down to 25microns if your talking a perforated membrane filter.
