Well see I think I know where there is a wastegate for me to play with

Should be getting back onto the head side of things soon. Just finished cutting the seats for the oversized valves.

If I time it all right then I should be upping the power again just as it starts to snow

^^^ Tial wastegates supposedly the best are renowned for ripping diaphragms. Audi wastegates yes they rip too but after 150k+ miles not a year. Personally I rather run the Audi one if I can get away with it.

What about porting the Audi one? Not looked at if from a flow point of view but it'll just be a cast item with fairly rough finish so improvements are there to be made I'm sure. Also, what about an oversized valve? Nice and stock looking from the outside

Splitting the diaphragm on the Audi WG is surely rather a dangerous thing as it's the boost pressure that counters the spring pre-load and thus regulates the boost. i.e. it doesn't fail safe! A ripped diaphragm would result in the full spring force pressing against the WG and holding it shut (as would happen if the boost pipe was removed), resulting in severe overboost capability, especially on a bigger turbo capable of some high boost figures.

Jonas had porting done on his but by the time and price you have it ported you can buy a tial replacement.

If there was a cheap porter then hell yes as there is great gains to be had on porting the WG as there's loads that can come off from just gasket or flange matching

Don't see why it is expensive can't say it took me much more than 3-4hrs. Heck took me longer to chop the letters out my numberplate

There's a thread about the different stock wastegate sizes here.

I've reshaped and ported my original WG since then.

Just checked an AAN S6 wastegate with the B suffix and it has the 34m port opening!
I would think its likely that the 10V wastegate has the smaller 30mm port whilst the 20V got the bigger 34mm port.
Perhaps John's was replaced at some point.

                          http://cgi.ebay.de/38mm-Wastegate-Au...item5d28be0588

this one with 38mm is it better than our oem wastegates?

the flange seems to be not valid for our exhaust manifolds true??

well the manifols is welded up and going back on tonight.

then its pipe time. im sure its to do with that bottleneck. it may not be an issue on sub 400hp and cast but on the tubes and high boost its an issue for sure.

                              till then its potter about.

any tips for removing a stuck gate. ive tried a rubber mallet. oh and a copper one.

I tested my car on a dyno with different boost pressures, from 0.75 to 1.8bar, and the wastegate/WG pipe was hottest at the lowest pressure and not the highest. So much more exhaust had to pass the WG @ 0,75bar then @ 1.8bar. So high boost doesn't equal the need for a large WG in my case.
