Finally got round to plumbing in my boost gauge this evening. Can anyone confirm what sort of psi i should be seeing? Also is there an optimum gear for which i should be checking the reading in?
What boost

I have some more info to relay on this.....The peak readings i got tonight were 6 psi in 2nd@ 5000rpm, 10 psi in 3rd at about 5500rpm and 20 psi at 5500in 4th. Is this normal or do i have another problem with the car
I personally do not think the car is as quick as it was

Fourth gear Dean, you should be getting about 20 psi. Bang the throttle down at 3500rpm and see what happens. I reckon you have got used to the cars performance!! Upgrade timesigpic

Stock RS2 max boost is about 1.2 - 1.3 bar - best achieved from low revs in 4th and above. Max boost is about 3500-4000 from memory. Multiply bar by 14.5 for psi.
Chipped RS2 runs to max about 1.6bar and with careful custom mapping you can go even higher - and actually into 2bar if the engine internals are strengthened.

Am I reading this right dean - Is your boost peaking at 5000 to 5500 rpm? What are you getting at 3500rpm, 4000 rpm and 4500rpm? I wonder if your timing is way out if it is peaking really late - Sal has had this problem in the past.
I found it is easier to mount your boost gauge on top of the steering colum cowel(temporarily with cable ties) and then record a short video of you accelerating in 4th from 1000rpm to redline - then you can see the boost and the rpm and you can plot these later.
Sal is peaking over 2 bar with no internals strengthened on his RS2 setup - although I doubt anyone recomends doing this!S2,RS2,S4 WB,RS4,S4 B8,RS6 C5,RS6 C6,R8Comment

My boost reading hits 2,5 sometimes but it's waaay too much. As discussed before enything above 1,8 with stock engine is not recomended. I know guys hitting 3,5+ boost (acc. comp.) and the result is veeery bended conrods....Comment

Another update to this... I checked the cam timing yesterday and as far as i can tell ,with the knowledge and instructions from the Forum
,it *seems* to be OK
When putting it back together tho, i noticed the protection around the earth wire from the coil pack had burnt/melted away and some of the wire was in contact with the coil pack cover
I presume this may affect something
With a Team Bodge style repair
, i took it for another test and it peaked at 21 psi in 2/3/4th.

That brown wire is the earth path for the coil packs. A bad connection there can cause misfires, hesitation and all sorts of grief...Paul Nugent
