Hammer and chisel! its the easiest way, then dont fit it again. its not needed. then there is a 13mm headed nut under it. Remove the IM first, its so much easier.

Tis THE worst dissy location in the world - ridiculous really. Good thing is that Audi fixed it properly and brought us direct ignition a few years later.

                my thoughts exactly.
When taking the inlet manifold off are there any torque settings i need for putting it back on? and will i have to replace any gaskets? Thought i better ask this first so that i have all the bit's i need before i jump in head first!

Yes you'll need gaskets for the IM... Best to have a darn good look at two link hoses for the water system when you have that out of the way. They are prone to failure. You might also consider thermostat at the same time if you have any doubts on your existing one - just to save you time down the line.

Its worth investing in the special tool to get at the IM bolts, basically a long 6mm hex bar with a socket on the end, which fits down the holes in the IM to get at the bolts.
                    a lot easier

Renew the im to head gasket and tb to im gasket. Same time it's easy to renew the thermostat and the nearby hoses - just because it's so easy when the im is out.

New o-ring to the dizzy base isn't a bad idea neigter.

Your local friendly stealer. Think they are about 8quid, haven't got the number to hand at the moment i'll get you it later,
well if you have about a 10" 6mm allen key that will do

theres no need to take the throttle body off. leave everything attatched to the IM.
