    Bad Smell

So recently, if the car is still and the heating is on, there seems to be a smell of petrol coming from the air vents.

What's the first thing to check here?

As far as I can tell, it's not leaking anything onto the ground overnight - although with recent weather the ground isn't really dry to start with

Your fuel lines are probably just made of rust and thus are porous , usually happens at the bottom of the engine bay as they bend round to go to the back of the car as this is the point of impact damage over the years stripping the anti corrosion coating off .
Most common cause , unless you know that they are OK / been replaced .

Yeah more than likely corroded fuel lines, if you choose to use new ones from audi its an engine out job to fit them in one piece

          Okay, thanks guys.

If they are corroded as such, how long will I get away with it for?

Just thinking, if it's an engine-out job to fit new ones, I'd rather do it when there's other stuff to do at the same time.

its only an engine out job if you want to fit one piece lines from the dealer. Otherwise you can cut the lines as the head up the bulkhead into the engine bay and use compsression fittings to join a new pipe on

If you are smelling fuel i would suggest getting them sorted sooner rather than later, from
my own experience the ones in the egine bay will most likely be ok,it cut them and joined onto them with new all the way to the back of the car.my 2p

Um - if you feel your feet getting warm, or you look in the mirror and your hairstyle has changed to a '70's singed look. That's when you should be thinking of changing the lines..

Well, now I have el S2 back, I'm probably going to get Rob (GT500) to sort it out for me. Too much of a pain in the *** without a ramp.
