I have heard that an over torqued knock sensor will detect knock more than one that is torqued to the right amount,I have no idea if this is true,so I wondered if anyone has any exsperiance regarding this issue.

when i fitted new knock sensors on my coupe I looked into this abit. It is important that you do the bolts up to the right torque setting, I think it was 15ft/lbs. Not very tight, so make sure you put abit of loctite on the threads -
you should be able to torque it accurately. I had a small 3/8 drive torque wrench and a long extension bar, we where able to get them torqued just right in situeComment

For the front sensor I cut a little window in the plastic rad surround so I could get an extension straight on it

With the early 7A ones you can't use a socket on them as the whole body of the sensor screws in and needs a spanner. I just nip them up to what feels right and they've always been fine.. best to use the right torque setting if you can though.Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
