Failed MOT on emissions? any ideas

Might have emissions problems for MOT any one know how hard it is to sort out

secondly did you take it for a spin before hand - i mean proper spin to get them hot as hell as that helps.

Cars been stood for three months in a warehouse, only started it up and drove it a few miles. Think it has got cat not sure.

have you change the oil in engine? airfilter? the oilleekin turbo( in the exos) will kause bad emission too..

as above, get it warmed up good an proper and also its worth checking filter and doing the oil as caterpillar's mentioned

Has to have cats fitted or you are pissing in the wind!!
Give it a damn good thrashing before hand, to warm everything up and clear the ***** from the exhaust.
If you are convinced it will fail, give it a service (oil/filters/plugs), check the exhaust is leak free. I have used cataclean on cars that were marginal failures to get them through.
and yes it DOES work and i am an MOT tester.
If you take it and it fails make sure you get a copy of the test and post up what the figures are (CO, HC and Lambda) and i can point you in the right direction to get it through.

...or have it melt the probe and it'll get through. That was the alleged story on my decatted RS2; my MOT tester did tell me I'll need cats next year though

As others have said, get the cat right up to temp - I had issues with the sport cat on my S2 last year, finally got it through after a few tries, but it hadn't been thrashed properly.

Oddly enough this years MOT on the S2 the tester said the ABY engine could legitimately be passed on the older test; he spoke to VOSA - told me it was something to do with it being listed as a 2.3 opposed to a 2.2. Aparrently the ADU was listed correctly though

mine got mot with no cats on old test reading . up to 1995 reg up to 3.2 co i think ???? (1993 aby)

I think on a 1990 reg car like mine you can get away with more emmisions that a coal fired power station
Mine with no cat was less than 10% the CO limit

3" system - straight through - no cats - the MOT tester re-callibrated his system because the reading was so low he thought it was off - he then tested a 4 year old car which gave a higher reading than my old girl. It does however say in the notes that my exhaust is 'loud'.......

I think mine come up about 0.5 CO, with Mihnea chipsets..

The avant would fail on oil burning at the mo though.. new turbo and rings going in this week.
