    20vT ECU onto a 10vT

Has anyone used an S2 type 20vT ECU (Motronic) and Loom onto a 10vT?

    Is it possible/viable etc?

It has certainly been attempted,i think it was 'steved' from sussex who had/or was on the quattronut website many moons ago who was doing it around 2004,not sure how it ended up.I think Steve was talking to Paul nugent about it at the time(i could be wrong)

I've got a fully rebuilt 10vT and most of the ancillaries sat here now, awaiting to go into the RallyRep, (CQ based) but I've not got the fuel/air control side. I've got an itch that needs scratching, and want to get the thing in and running ASAP now, but I'm shying away because of the cost of a full OMEX (or similar) system at the moment.

I've just popped over and had a chat with John (the chap doing the work on the Ur) and he can't really see a problem in principle with it. So I might be on the lookout for an S2 ECU and Loom, injectors and fuel rail.

This will be a quite difficult conversion if you persist with using the 10Vt engine. The 20vt has many more electronic sensors than a 10Vt. The 20vt Motronic ECU needs these sensors in place and functioning properly to work. If you do persist (and good luck to you, you will need it), you should be looking for a ECU, etc. from a 3B (in the early S2s and the 1991 200 20vt) because it still had a distributor and a single coil. The later S2 engine (ABY) had no distributor and 5 coils, one per plug, and therefore would be next to impossible to get to work on a 10vt.

What you have said makes very little sense, all you would need to do for the aby ecu and loom conversion would be make a bracket for the cam wheel hall sender and that's about it. If you used an AAN loom the sensor just goes in place the dizzy so you wouldn't even need to make a bracket ! The 10 valve uses the same crank sensors that are common to all engines, the knock sensors screw in to the block as do all the coolant sensors and the air inlet sensor is the same part also . You can even get screw in inserts for the head for the injectors to go in the only thing you have to do is make a fuel rail as the spacing is different for the 10v injectors but I'm sure that 034 make these anyway so not an issue .

It has been done and worked well it was on motorgeek I think a few years ago.

Thanks for the thoughts and replies folk, it looks like the engine will be pulled out in January, so any more information gratefully received.

              Kind regards

If you used an ABY loom instead of the 3B loom, not only do you have to handle the locating the G40 cam sensor, you also have to either provide two three channel POSs and five coils or you have to go for either a full Apikol 1.8t coil pack or EfiExpress LS2 coil (and wires) conversion. If he was to use an AAN loom, it would have to be from an UrS4 that was built before about mid-February, i.e. a car that still had the Hall sensor in the "tuna can" distributor under the intake manifold. Later AAN's had the cam sensor behind the exhaust cam sprocket like the ABY. Either way, even with the tuna can AAN cam sensor, you would still need five coils. This why I suggested that a 3B loom would be less difficult.

Yep I'm running a completely custom 2.5L 10vt engine using an AAN ECU and customised AAN loom. In a T25/T3 syncro bus

Sorry to be a pain, but can you pop over any more information if possible. Ours will be a fairly straightforward engine 2144cc (1st Oversize) WR block, gas flowed KG head, KKK24K, standard (but flowed) manifolds etc. Just need to get a handle on the bits and bobs we need and any pitfalls.

                          Thanks in advance

                            Normally a K26 on a 10v is it not?
