    G40 camshaft position sensor PN??

anyone know the correct PN for the G40 sensor, just spoke to my mate at VW and the part number he can find is

    034 905 381 or 034 905 381A

    are any of these correct?

I put the part number into google and it comes up as a crankshaft pulse sensor?

You mean one of these? The numbers youve been given refer to the crank position or speed sensor... the G40 is the cam postion sensor

This is a photo of a broken one, it shows the audi and bosch part numbers

      Audi part number 034 905 161

      Bosch 0 232 101 020

          You need to put a 5V LED (i got mines, a CJ65V, from maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...rderCode=CJ65V ) across pins 2 and 3.

The signal output is on pin 2... thats the pin that should blink.

Pull back the rubber boot and ease LED pins down into contact with the connector leads on pins 2 and 3. Ignition on and you should see pulses from the LED if the sensor is ok.

Isn't this something that Paul N. has built as a plug and play tester?

In any event, Avants2turbo's immediate issue is his connector is busted up. That said, he *could* still just connect the appropriate wires and their male-female spade connectors together, keeping them from touching with PVC electrical tape.

do we really think that busted connector could stop the car from starting?

If any of the three pins on the G40 are not working or are not connected properly, your engine is not going to start, end of story. As I suggested the plastic connector housing is not 100% necessary, if you were desparate and wanted to get the car started.
